The following is a hypothetical question. You do not run a risk to mislead anyone by answering whatever you like.

Let's imagine that someone who is not me (SWIM), let's say a West African underwear model, got a job in sunless Ireland, settled in Dublin and is trying to keep her wits together replacing sunshine with Guiness. Let's imagine SWIM's hairdresser discovers a 20p-sized discoloration on SWIM's head that looks very much like a melanoma. SWIM has a medical insurance but is quite healthy, eats healthy food, exercises, hasn't seen a doctor in years and is not exactly looking forward to seeing one. SWIM is rather alternative, doesn't trust the medical profession too much and would probably even try to treat cancer with turmeric and avocados. But SWIM understands the seriousness of risks and urgency of skin cancer and wants a biopsy ASAP.

What would you say would be the fastest and easiest way for SWIM to get a biopsy done on her discoloration? Would there be a way to avoid GPs, referrals and such nonsense and just find a shortcut to a lab in or around Dublin? I am sure that, if SWIM existed, she would be very grateful for your input.

it is obvious that the above questions are anything but hypothetical.

Just go to your doctor, will you? If you don't like/trust your doctor, get another one. Or tell your friend SWIM to.

I can understand how daunting a visit to the doctor can be but please go and see your doctor. If you don't have a gp or aren’t comfortable with your current gp ask friends or relatives to recommend one.

nothing about this is hypothetical. You need yo see a GP urgently. You don't just get melanoma in sunny countries. You really have to get this seen to, and quickly.

The GP has the ability to get you seen quicker by the dermatologist, and may be able to reassure you themselves.

Do not delay with this.
