Defo cole- no risk of rotation- picks up more bonus points and I reckon will chip in with about 15+ this season

+1. Be interesting to see who Crouch goes to too, a decent club you never know he might rake in some consistant points.

    Latest Version:

    Schwarzer
    Evra - Rio - Woodgate - Alex - A.Cole
    Lampard - Gerrard - Murphy - Modric
    Ebanks-Blake

    Sorensen, Muamba, Jerome, Daryl Murphy

Staying away from Arsenal, Everton, West Ham & the others who are not playing the 2nd week. Plan at moment is getting in Carlton Cole in week 3.

Bear in mind that Fulham will also miss out on a game in the second week assuming they progress in the Europa League, which they are expected to do.

That would mean you'd have to have Sorensen in goal for week 2 and that week Stoke are away to Liverpool and will most likely be on the end of a drubbing. :pac:

If you really want to start with Schwarzer I'd suggest going for someone like Hart instead of Sorensen as Birmingham have a home game against Pompey in week 2 and I don't suppose Hart will be too troubled for that one.

A quick one - Crouch or Carlton Cole? Forget about the 0.5M difference in price for now.

For me C.Cole at 7.0 and Evra at 6.5 are the 2 stand-out underpriced players, as guaranteed starters. I'd probably have C.Cole in my team if he was 8.0 to be honest.

As for builttospills comments about Zhirkov, we'll have to wait and see what happens. But how can you be so sure he won't play? Are you Carlo Ancellotti?* There is a lot to suggest he will start for Chelsea. The charity shield should give us some clues, and I would sense that if he doesn't start in it a lot of people will take him out.

But if he does become a regular starter (and the fact they shelled out £18m for him, and the fact Malouda isn't exactly a world beater, and the fact he is Russian so Roman will want to see him play suggests he quite probably will be a regular), then you're talking about getting a Chelsea winger in your side for 7.5m. Which is fantastic value considering their opening fixtures. Add the this the fact he is classified as a defender and it almost looks like more of a risk to not have him in your team than to have him in. Seriously if Zhirkov starts, (which for the above reasons I suspect he probably will) and plays in any way well, you could be looking at a monster points haul for only 7.5.

Did the expert consider any of this before posting?

*By the way I take all of this back, if builttospill is in fact Carlo Ancellotti.

sorry i dont mean to be rude mate. My method that has worked well for me is to spend heavily in midfield. I never spend more than 5 million on a defender.
Buy a defender from different clubs that will always start and pump money into serious scorers in midfield that is where the points are scored. To a lesser extent up front.

Rotate your defenders on the basis of easiness of game or likelihood to keep a clean sheet.
Mind you, you didnt spend alot on your defence but your midfield and strikeforce is lightweight.
Also start Carlton Cole instead of Andy Johnson.

I know you weren't trying to sound rude, I didn't mean to sound rude in either, ah the cruel circle continues...

Obviously this is just personal opinion, but I don't like spending a shed load of money on a small amount of players and rely on them to get points. Aside from Lampard, I can't really think of who will be another high scoring midfielder, any thoughts?

Gerrard and Arshavin will score regularly for midfielders in my opinion. Try and fit one more high priced midfielder like Kuyt. He'll always play and will score 10+ goals which for a midfielder will be vital points wise over the course of the season.
Then maybe look to some wildcard midfielders like Dempsey (well not really a wild card as he is prem proven) Eagles, Kightly and also Jimenez and Savio at West Ham who both kinda player between the lines in advanced roles.

Defenders, go for those that play regularly first and foremost and are either a) dominant in the air, or b)good going forward
Cahill and Warnock are good choices.

not bad, but scale down in defence and upgade on Neville in midfield. He wont score points for ya.

Modric could flourish this season too.

Neville scored 140 points last season, and for £5 million, he isn't a bad choice.

Neville was down as a defender last season but played midfiled for everton therefore getting clean sheet points and assists..hes down as a midfielder this season and wont score anything near those points. ;)

Ah, I see. Same kinda situation with Zhirkov at Chelski then..

    Anyways, swapped out:

    Carra for Upson,
    A. Cole for Corluka (spurs might actually be decent this year round)
    Neville for A. Young

    Its a solid team.

Personally I wouldnt spend so much on a keeper like Cech when a 4.0mill keeper may score better.

Defenders - Your starting 3 are first choice starters and Vidic knows where the goals are when he up for corners etc. Always reckoned Carra is a bit overpriced however. Maybe a more attacking player could do better job - Lescott / A.Cole / Evra???

Midfield - Alonso is cheap but as a defensive mid he wont score too heavily. Murphy had a great season last year and hits the penalties. Malbranque is an attacking player and knows where the goals are.

Strikers - Johnson? I would prob replace him with someone like Cole / Crouch (if moves club). Doyle is good value. Torres however isnt - 11.5 for a player who only scored 135 points last year? I would rather recycle those points and replace someone in midfiled with Arshavin / Gerrard / Kuyt...

I think Rooney is better value than Torres. He's .5 of a million cheaper and he should flourish this season with Ronaldo gone.

Kevin Doyle could miss the start of the season. He had a hernia op and is out until October apparently. I wasn't sure whether to go for him or Ebanks Blake but its definitely Ebanks Blake now.

    My team now is:

    Given

    Warnock
    Anton Ferdinand
    Woodgate

    Arshavin
    Lampard
    Gerrard
    Malbranque
    Jimenez

    Rooney
    Ebanks Blake

Hart, Zayatte and two other subs not worth even mentioning.

I had got Jasskelainen (4.5) in goals to save 1.0 mil and some better subs but decided to just go for it and have Zayate as my only decent sub.

I think Given (5.5) will score well because he's scored well consistenty with a Newcastle defence in front of him so he should be a revelation with the City defence in front of him.

I'm planning to swap Jimenez out too. Anyone know a decent mid for 5 mil?

How much is Barry Ferguson? It'll be interesting to see how he does.

Last year I went for a defence from the top four and it didn't work out so I'm going for high scoring mids and a high scoring striker this season.

As someone above said, the defenders from the lower teams usually pick up a few points and Warnock often plays in midfield for Blackburn. Redknapp tightened up Spurs as well and Bruce and Allardyce will be tightening up Blackburn and Sunderland.

Torres has the best points per game out of all the strikers. 5.6.

True, shows how many games he missed last year then.

Ferguson is 5mil alright, I'd go for Seb Larsson though at the same price. Should be a regular starter and scores goals.

    And I've changed mine again....

    Green

    G. Johnson
    Carragher
    Upson

    Lampard

    C. Cole

    Subs:
    Sorensen
    Ebanks-Blake
    Mendy
    Vokes

I'm going by the fact defenders score better than strikers, but I will more than likely change my team in a few hours anyways

Great shout. If you want a very cheap mid Larsson's your man. He should be involved in anything good Birmingham do. He's a freekick specialist as well. Could see him getting 4-5 goals and maybe 6-8 assists, plus the odd bonus, and he should also play 90 minutes. For .5 more than the cheapest midfield options this is very good value

Why are people picking their teams looking at the fixture list? If a few teams dont play in the second fixture, they will have to have a double gameweek in the future

because you can make transfers throughout the year

but ya can only make one free transfer a week, or does the new rule mean if ya dont use the free transfer, it carries over to the next week?

Yes that is what the new rule means.

But it dosn't continue accumalating. You'll never have more than 2 free transfers (apart from when you use your wildcard of course)
