Homebase Gardening Rip-Off!!

The other day at Homebase Ballymun branch ( near IKEA site) I noticed that in their outdoor gardening section everything which has dual ( Sterling - Euro) pricing was showing a clear unambiguous 50% increase from £ to € prices. So, for example, something with a £7.99 price was also marked as €11.99. Once again UK multiples are taking their Irish customers for suckers. Mary Coughlan and the Competition Authority are right but can they do something to stop rip-off pricing like this?

Homebase are the same company as Argos with the same ridiculous pricing strategy for ireland. B&Q use a 1.25 / 1.3 exchange which is fair considering higher vat & higher costs. 1.50 exchange IS a rip-off.

So again the managers in the stores understand basic economics and charge what the market will bear, a primary school kid will understand this fundamentally basic concept. AFAIK Homebase are not a registered charity.

A manager who based his prices on www.XE.com would be carted off by the men in white coats.

OK - lets look at a real comparison rip off by homebase.

Minky Air Clothes Dryer. (Clothes horse) Tesco The Square €19.49. Homebase Fonthill €48.99.

Exact same product, exact same bar code. Both everyday prices.

Hiomebase = rip off
Tesco = Value
