Treating Wooden Gate and Fence

Hi, I have a wooden gate and fence that were treated with some of that black / v dark preservative / oil - dont remember the name though. They havent been treated in a while and are part black / bare wood. What is the best stuff to put on them so they are protected + are black again? Any advice would be great. Mike

Wouldnt have been creosote that was originally applied was it? Is that stuff still availible, it was all the rage at one time, nasty stuff!! Is the wood dry or oily/dirty to touch?

You can get ronseal and other brand outdoor timber preservatives that come in a range of colors, including black.

I think it probably is creosote - rings a bell now. It is kind of greasy.
