Skoda Octavia 1.4 - timing chain - every x 1000 miles?

Garrage said every 30k, are they right?

timing chain on a 1.4 Octavia? what year is it?

If it's an older one (00+) I'd change the belt early as it has plastic pulleys that aren't that durable and may throw the belt off prematurely.

It's a belt on the MK2 Octavia, and that would be closer to 80k

How do I know if its an mk1 or 2?

Its a timing belt - not chain as I said

The timing belt on the Octavia Mk1 1.4 petrol needs to be changed every 60k miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. The Mk2 has the same engine afaik so it should be the same.

Family member got a quote recently from a Skoda main dealer in Dublin for €600, and negotiated it down to €550. Hope that helps...
