    Were these ever sold here?

I remember when i was a kid, my dad's neighbour had one of these, same colour. I think it was a 2.8 litre diesel.

I don't think so but I'm not 100% sure. The Laurel was sold as a 2.0 and 2.4 whereas the Cedric was a 2.8 (google shows a 2.6 version as well) - in petrol versions anyway. My uncle in Belfast had a series of Laurels and Cedrics and they're the engine configurations that I remember.

They had a really silky smooth 6 cylinder engine that sounded fantastic. The bodies tended to rust quite quickly hence the fact that he had so many - I don't think that he kept any of them for more than two years.

edit: I don't remember ever seeing an original 26 county Cedric.

Edit again: further googling shows that I could be completely wrong but its virtually impossible to tell for sure what was available in the UK/Irish markets and what was available worldwide. I think that the Cedric always had a 'C' suffix whereas the Laurel had an 'L' suffix which would indicate to me that they were distinct models.

That photo does look a lot like the last generation Laurel to be sold in Irleand before the Maxima arrived a few years later.

The Cedric was imported here in the 70's but not the 80's or 90's AFAIK. I dont think 80's Datsuns had the 2.8 diesel factory fitted, could be wrong though !

Could be a 2nd hand jap import, those wing mirrors dont look original to me.

I would think that the car for sale on donedeal is a Japanese import.
I used to remember a few Laurels when I was a teen, one was a station wagon which had fake wooden panels like the US station wagons. There
was another model inbetween called the 280 C and that was sold here because there was an original Irish regd car a few miles away from which I used to see at Hot Rod events about 15 years ago although thankfully not hot rodding.

Ive been in the cedric taxi a few times and Top Gear did a feature on the present model, which is only available to taxi and private hire companies in Japan. Still very much the same as the 280 E Brougham from the 80s.

    What hot rod events?

It was a hot rod event that was on annually at a festival in south tipperary during the summer months. There were the usual mini's and beetles, once there was a real beauty, an audi 100 Coupe. I saw the silver 280 C in the carpark and I think it was from somewhere around there.

Though by its paint and finish i reckon it was an english team that bought it over. The car was mint, seemed to have no rust whatsoever anywhere.

The car probably was mint. The 280C's and Crowns never seem to fetch much money.
I think people have an elevated view of the mk1 Granada as being the cooler car and to be honest I'd prefer the Granada myself!

Yes,i would too,MK1 Granada is a very nice car, although the 280s and crowns have a rarity factor alright perhaps.

The banger boys love them all...
