have just applied and have done the ist, and i know that this stage is a long way of this year or if it takes 8 years.

i had a query about the 4 weeks up in garneville?

if ladies who have children get in can they go home at all during the week, i think i would find it awful and also one my babes has special needs it would be even harder.

just a query and i suppose i would like to have an idea as it may stop me in my tracks.

well done to all u guys who have got in.

    fair play!:)

Hi Bubbsaboo, not sure about the 4 weeks in GV but I'd say that if you live close by they'd let you. Im just 'talking' from my own mind, so more info would be needed. Do you have a system to look after your child if you have to do different shifts, day, evening, night etc. No one knows the shifts, for security reasons, movement patterns ya see. I hope it will work out for you and someone more informed can give you a better idea. Good luck! :)

manaka thanks for reply anyway, no i dont have anything sorted yet it would have to be a mixture of a private childminder, their father who is on a 3 on 3 off shift pattern and family, it could be very hard and i would have to try and organise something i would hate to waste their time.

its a long way of and i know it takes many recruits years to get in and others get in first time.

r the shifts like 4 on 4 off or have they changed?

At least if it was something like that then you could be there those few days, us mummys eh hard call have a career or be a full time mum

i work part time now and do nights/weekends so i would be very different, hey sure no point worrying my slightly large ass off at the min is there.:P

I have no idea on the 4 to 4 thing. I hope to get in first time. Waiting on medical to clear. Definitely career or you will probably regret it in the long run with 'what if..' being a mother is a tough task and im sure mothers have the qualities the PSNI are after!! Resilience for one!! Plenty of time to shake that ass then me dear!!

all worries a real worries to the worrier:)... i have no small folk to think of, only one large child to whom i am married, his mummy will no doubt spoil him rotten if i am lucky enough to get to GV. i do admire anyone considering such a change to their lives and that of everyone dependant on them... am hoping that the psni would be flexible enough with regards to childcare arrangements etc, there was new legislation out last week that may cover this.

Bus ba what ever ur name is lol
Yea you can apply to stay out and with your case id say that there will be no trouble.

Also guys, with respect to minding kids and stuff, you'll find that the legislation only applies if the police can actually cater for your needs. However the position you will be placed in is response policing, and this requires you to work shifts. Your probation lasts at least 2 years and you will stay in response until that time. After this you can apply for other departments. This is when you may be able to get flexi working time to suit your needs.

It all depends what youre situation is to be honest. Family support etc. In my current job im on call 24/7 and its not really that funny. Done it a long long time and you make your life fit around your job. I was back at work about 10 days after birth. Am I crazy? Yes I am. Wish I had stayed at home doing potato prints. Bit late now. She is into nightclubs. Would potato prints have made her a better person? Hell no. Her words. Not mine.

i dont have a lot of support i have my hubby and my mum who works full time herself, and my hubby who does as well

i will have to wait just long time off, maybe i can keep trying year after year and when the time is right i will get in, my kids r 3 and 5 so are young.
