It is a porn line. And very hardcore, because it has 7 xs. Worse even than very, very harsh mints. And very cheap beer.

Thats not a very good representation of what the game play is like. As it states at the start "Fun with the arma2 editor".

Its very realistic and alot of people hate ArmA1 because its too "boreing". Any game where you can be in the back of a trans heli for 7 minutes and get blown up 300 meters from the LZ is awesome to me. I think arma2 boasts something stupid like 40X40 mile landscape. And i dont mean stupid as in stupid....i think its great.....i mean as in....well now that i think of it "stupid" was a sh1te word choice. Best i delete all this dribble.......or not....

It's an awesome game. It's based off the bar that was set by Operation: Flashpoint almost 10 years ago. It's battle simulation to the absolute core.

Shooting a guy in the leg with a 9mm round will wound him and hinder his movement. He won't be able to run or walk properly but he can still get around a bit. His aim will be a bit affected due to the stress and he'll basically be shag all use in anything but a stationary position.

Shooting him in the arm won't effect movement but does render that arm fairly useless. If it's the supporting arm (ie not the one being fired with) then the aim will be all over the place for anything but one-handed weapons. Shooting the firing arm can render the target unable to fire his weapon completely. However, they may draw a pistol with their weak arm, or even attempt switching firing arms so the wounded one is now supporting.

Shooting the gun, if you can manage it, destroys the gun itself but only causes grazes from the shrapnel to the operator.

Kevlar actually counts for something, and ceramic plates even more so. You have to actually pick your shots. Sometimes wounding is better than killing because you don't have armour to compete with, and it'll suck in more squad members helping the target.

Tanks can throw tracks if hit with explosives, jeeps can have their engines shot out by anti-material rifles, pilots will parachute out of damaged aircraft if they have time...
The list goes on and on and on. It's easily one of the most impressive games I've ever seen from the point of realism. Have a look for some of the videos of it in action on YouTube (though they're a poor indicator of the depth of it too). Though if you want another CoD4 style game, you might want to just look away. This one is for the grown ups...

Was both a huge fan and a hater of operation flashpoint. (if you can have a love/hate relationship with a game)
Was waaaayyy ahead of its time as computer games go,
but it was so unforgiving that at times it became frustration more than fun. Many I time I alt tabbed out of a mission and
deleted the temperory save game files to allow me to save again (it only let you save 2-3 times per mission)

Trying to fly a chopper of a plane was Nuts in that game.

I bought Arma1 thinking it would be a huge improvement
over Operation flashpoint and was disapointed. Game play
was full of graphicical bugs, crashes, and was even more frustraiting when you spend about 20 mins in a mission only to be taken out from an unseen enemy with one shot.

Arma2 so far I've resisted the urge to purchase! my buddy who is a programmer and was a HUGE operation flashpoint fan bought it and
and regretted buying it as any ounce of fun was taken out
    of the game.

    You played Insurgency?

Its not as expansive as that, and running looks funny, but its a free mod and quite realistic, and completley addictive. Source makes it run on any pc too :D

the movement look terrible on it, sort of matchstick man like., thats a long way off COD imo, maybe COD on the PS2, while you were drunk, with some nightmare'ishly huge map anda lot of ground to cover without seeing anything.,lol

The reason they looked matchstick like was because they were 600m away....

Look at the detail on the tank when it dives by.

There's detail that sh!ts on cod.

it actually not all that detailed, just watched it there in HQ., also noticed the jumpyness of the screen when he was zoomed in and the light on the side of the rifle doesnt change much even though the character is turning.,:(

Brilliant bit of fun, its hard to get used to but once you start getting kills its so much more satisfying than the likes of cod 4 or 5.
Is it still popular or had any updates recently?
