Gypsies, Foreigners and Travellers

Did anyone see the report on RTÉ News about less people would like to live beside foreigners and travellers? I think this came about from the recent attacks on gypsies in Belfast. What do you think about this. Would you live beside them?

Would living beside them be any different to living beside Irish settled people? Would it make your life any different by living beside a gypsy or a traveller?

What a ridiculous topic to do a news report on. Does it make a difference where they're from? As long as they're not intrusive or disruptive it's none of my business where my neighbours come from!

Most Travellers that I've encountered have been friendly and sincere people.

I'd have no problem with them living beside me once they show the same level of respect as anyone would be expected to, and vice versa

Actually I'm Polish myself, however don't mind living among Irish people, although they usually don't show the same level of respect as I do

PS. Just messing of course. I haven't visited Boards for a while, so decided to speak up just for the crack.

BTW, I think my neighbours like me; a woman next door probably more than the others...

wouldn't like to live beside travellers, personally i've had too many bad experiences with them...

The survey also showed that 50% would mind living next door to a member of the Traveller community, which is an increase on four years ago.

More than 23% of people said they would mind a gay, lesbian or bisexual person living next door, compared to 14% three years ago.

Having a neighbour of a different religion was a difficulty for only 6% of respondents.

A Racism forum is a great idea.
If we can't tell guys from gals on the forums how will we know if anyone is black, white, red or yellow?
