What's the story with regards the line up and acts being added? Do many acts usually get added closer to the event or is what's accounced so far pretty much it?

And the timetable, when will that be published? So I know if any of the acts I want to see might clash.

As for the line up, I don't think it's that bad. There's maybe about 10 acts I'd like to see. Oxegen line-up is obviously bigger & more popular names but I really have zero interest in going to it. I'd prefer EP personally.

€240 is kinda expensive but Oxegen is pretty much the same. I've got tickets for U2 (€130) and Coldpaly (€70), so a whole weekend for €240 seems like a bargain :D

There will be more smaller bands announced closer to the date. It is probably it for larger names though. Timetables usually only surface a day or two before the festival.

Does anyone by any chance have pictures of the family campsite last year?

Anyone know if the Comfy Crapper will be back at the Picnic this year?

I remember last year hearing someone say that they weren't going to be back in 2009 but not sure if that's true.

Dunno, but my tip for the weekend is to go to the toilet in the main area (not the campsite), early in the morning. The toilets are usually in a relatively pristine condition then.

Get any major 'business' out of the way. Sets you up nicely for the day.

Actually - just used that 'google' thing there that everyone is talking about and found the comfy crapper website. They've got EP listed on their event page so that would suggest they are back.

Good stuff. I cannae take the regular loos.

They're fcuking gag city, it'd put me off my buckfast. As some one described them before, 'turds and tampons' floating around the place.

I've never used the comfy crappers, must investigate this year........

You should check out thegreenman festival too. It's in Wales in August and has a top notch line up. The EP line up is god damn awful this year. THere are maybe 5 acts i'd like to see alot but nothing i know i won't get the chanve to see again and probably at a much fairer price. I'll ee you all at oxe, avoiding the scboes et al.

I was in this exact same situation last year goat. The EP lineup was OK but there was still a ton of bands i wanted to see at o2. In the end i went to both, camped at EP and then went to 1 day at o2. Best of both worlds.

As good as the acts were at o2 that year it was not worth it for the scboe-factor. They were everywhere. There was an ever-present unsettled atmosphere. It was over-crowded. There was nothing today between acts other than find a free bit of wet grass to sit on and eat soggy burgers and chips. I came home saying never again, but then i'd said that 4 years previous aswell.

Have you been to o2 recently? Because i think you'll find it more of a scuz-bucket jamboree than you expect.

Haven't been for 2 years so i'll def keep what you've said in mind, if i had the money i'd go to both but with these times!

    thanks again

I remember last year there was an announcement about the start of July as far as I know that had people like Booka Shade on it, so there could be some medium-big names still to de added, especially in the dance department I'd say, because there arn't that many there at the moment.
The line-up is usually put up in about August...check the EP forums, there's a wealth of information there, or is it blasphemous to talk about other forums on boards? :p

Definitely worth it. Couple of quid a go or you can get a weekend wristband too I think. They clean them constantly and keep liquids and solids seperate which really reduces the smell.

The brilliant Blitzen Trapper have announced a rake of gigs in Ireland for the end of August/Start of September on their official site, including EP. Delighted with that, another definite must see for me.

They normally have a loada that stuff on the small stages in Body and Soul and those kinda places, so there's probably more than there is in the line-up :)

    ...

    MindField at Electric Picnic 2009

The human mind is a lethal weapon which can be deployed to obliterate prejudice, ignorance and hate with inspiration, enlightenment and empathy.

This year, MindField which is set out over 6 stages is Electric Picnic's must-go zone to engage with the finest minds of our generation in incendiary debate and conversation on literature and poetry; science and human nature; politics and economics; theatre and music; photography and satire - even some as Gaeilge.

The MindField arena is laid out as the very essence of the Tidy Towns award-winning village green with picket fences, flower beds, bookshops, wine bars and deck chairs. So far, so twee - except it's been invaded and desecrated by eccentric scientists and wild-headed poets; historians and thespians; musicians and writers; and - what's worse - politicians and economists, all determined to blow your minds. Danger: MindField!

Leviathan Political Cabaret returns, enjoying its fourth year as the core of Electric Picnic's spoken word programme, Leviathan and its host - writer and broadcaster David McWilliams - decamp to Stradbally for the weekend bringing cutting-edge debates on such issues as The Politics of Culture; The New World Order; Reform or Revolution and much more with journalists, writers, musicians, philosophers and even the occasional Government minister or two.

We are honoured to welcome the incisive and elegant Jon Snow from Channel 4 who will host a special debate as well as the MindField All-Star News Quiz with very special guests.
Guest host Ryan Tubridy will also join us direct from his maiden voyage on the world's longest running chat show The Late Late Show to present an altogether different show with surprises for everyone in the audience. Also expect appearances from BP Fallon, satirical music and commentary from Paddy Cullivan and The Camembert Quartet and Readers' Wives; Dundalk dystopia with Jinx Lennon; speed-debating in the hugely popular Salon du Chat; dodgy life-coaching from Batty Ryan; and brand new satirical shorts from the Doris/Magee filmmakers.

Hosted by spoken word artist Marty Mulligan, The Word showcases a fine blend of poetry, spoken word, slam, prose, rap, readings, literature, comedy and music brought to you by an eclectic mix of national and international writers, poets and performers, all backed by The Aftermath, an act the Irish Independent rated as 'the saviours of Irish rock' and they'll be mixing it up with some very special guest artists throughout the weekend. There will be readings from emerging and established writers such as Olaf Tyaransen, Ronan Sommerville, Ronan Casey and many more. We're also thrilled to present The Book Club Boutique, which is rocking the London literary scene to its core with its outlandish shows.

Science Gallery makes its debut at Electric Picnic in 2009, based in a dramatic state of the art building on Dublin's Pearse St, Science Gallery is an initiative of Trinity College providing an exciting and innovative new space for ground-breaking exhibitions, experiments, workshops and debates a place where ideas meet.

Seed Dating hosted by Aoibhínn Ní Shúilleabháin is a fast-paced event designed to spark of creative connections and to allow people to share and develop ideas for innovative projects in arts, science, technology and media. Picnickers will also have an opportunity to take part in live Neuroscience Research and find out what is happening in their brain when they listen to two conversations at the same time or decide on the mood of a virtual crowd while wired up to an EEG machines. There's Mindball, the Pinocchio Illusion and much, much more to blow out the synapses and expand the mind.

Back indoors this year, MindField plays host to another weird and wonderful programme of theatrical brilliance from the Theatre Stage which will transport you to another world. Highlights include: The Poe Show: Michael James Ford and Trevor Knight / Waiting for IKEA / Moonshine Travellers / Seven Times Me. Full details on all these performances can be found at www.electricpicnic.ie

Literary Stage - following on from the success of the Arts Council Words and Music Stage, this year's programme is curated by writer-in-residence Dermot Bolger. There will be conversations, interviews, debates and more with some of Ireland's finest writers and a few from beyond our shores too. Themes will include artistic and ethnic exile, the work of Samuel Beckett; love and sex; and the language of photography with John Minihan, celebrated photographer of Samuel Beckett, Lady Diana Spencer and Francis Bacon. Expect a special announcement when the Literary Stage programme is finalised.
The Irish Language Stage or Gaeilge Beo returns this year with a riotous and irreverent mixture of programming with Rossa Ó Snodaigh of Kila as curator again. Peig it ain't! Including a new one-man show from Manchán Magan, GAA commentary karaoke, How to Swear in Irish, puppet shows, quizzes, comedy and theatre and much, much more - all in our native tongue.
Finally Out Here in the Fields - A unique collaborative digital story created by MindField patrons over the weekend. Each contributor types 50 words which are saved into the memory, leaving just ten words visible to the next contributor who must continue the narrative. And our very own speakers corner - The Electric Pulpit - An ecclesiastical platform where you can get it all off your chest and inspire the crowds with your oratory.
And much, much more still to be announced.

This year's line up includes: ORBITAL, FLAMING LIPS, BASEMENT JAXX, MADNESS, MGMT, FLEET FOXES, KLAXONS, BELL X1, RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, CHIC, SEASICK STEVE, 2 MANY DJs, LISA HANNIGAN, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, ABC, DAMIEN DEMPSEY, ALABAMA 3, BAT FOR LASHES, ZERO 7, EROL ALKAN, ROOTS MANUVA , THE SUGARHILL GANG, BILLY BRAGG, LYKKE LI, IMELDA MAY, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, MAGAZINE

i just skimmed through this and all i saw was Ryan 'effin Tubridy!!

    Dinosaur Jr are brilliant!

Dan Deacon can be a bit of craic too although I'm a bit weary of his 'games' at this stage.

dinosaur jr are easily one of my fav bands of all time, dan deacon is fantastic live, but overall, when i saw that 14 bands were announced, and then you click and look through the list, it's pretty disappointing overall.

i hope it doesn't sell out this year, i'm not going anyway, but hopefully if it falls a good bit short of selling out they'll pull their finger out and try and give people proper value for money
