Can you machine wash golf shoes?

Wondering if anyone has washed their golf shoes in a washing machine before? My shoes have gotten wet inside a couple of times over the last couple of weeks, remember that Saturday and recently hunting for a ball in long grass. Now they are stinking of that wet gear bag smell. I have often washed runners before without any bother but would be concerned that washing these might leave them in component parts?
Shoe is Nike SP1 I think,

So wash or empty can of shoe odour killer?

Should say on the label but I imagine it'd be fine.

Are they real leather or synthetic?
Are they supposed to be waterproof?

If you are going to wash them in a machine (and I would never do it) wash them at as low a temp as possible. The hotter the water gets the more likely it is to start to break things down and open up seams.

Id go for spray and some charcoal in them for a few days. Also, if the insoles come out, wash them.

    I'd just do the insoles.

Mine have never got wet inside though.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the benefit of charcoal?

Sure, if the shoes were waterproof then the water in the washing machine wouldn't be able to get inside the shoes to wash them...

    ... don't worry, i'm going.

I think he meant to use charcoal in the shoes to draw the water out of them but to wash only the insoles.

    ..presume you've got your coat?:D

Charcoal's a pretty good filter and should be useful to absorb alot of the nasty smells. You obviously never had smelly feet..odor eater insoles have charcoal in them :)

So I washed them, came out fine except the insoles had come out, but once dry the go back in and stay in. After washing there was still that smell of damp gear off them so I mixed some bleach with water and filled them with the bleach solution, left for a bit then rinsed them out and dried them in the sun. Wore them yesterday an the still are as comfy as ever and now look brand new and no smell!
I don't think I'd try with real leather though and if you're going to try it, I set the spin to 0, it could damage the machine or shoe or both on todays high speed spin cycles.
