Broken Acer Laptop Screen

I have an Acer Extensa 5230 Laptop (One of the cheapest ones), and i've got a broken screen.

A host of multi-coloured vertical lines appeared in the screen (they appeared exactly at the point where I lift the laptop screen to open it), and in trying to rid myself of them (and in frustration) I twisted the thing till something inside cracked, with the result my screen is now covered in black bobs, and the laptop is unusable.

Acer have quoted me 52 sterling just to have a look at it, and then advise on the costs of repair. Just want an indication of how much this is likely to cost, if anyone could help.

Or even anywhere in Ireland I could get it done for cheaper. I presume the lcd thing needs replacing or something.

    Many thanks

The twisting you applied to the lid cracked the LCD. Can easily happen. LCD's are delicate.

Don't bother sending it to Acer. They'll fleece ya. Use google ya'll find plenty of repair places that will beat any price Acer will give ya.

I can vouch for these people in Texas. I used them to save a lot of money on a 17" Vaio screen a year or so ago.

That was what I was thinking, many thanks for the advice. I'll try and get some prices for it locally.
