negotiating venue costs?

    hi just wondering have many been having much success negotiating venue costs?

    Corkage
    Actual meal etc.

    We started looking at top-end Dublin restaurants last September with a view to having our reception there and were quoted Euro 12.5k for exclusive use of one of them (on a Tuesday). They said that that was down from Euro 14.5k the previous year - in response to our jaws dropping.

    The recession hadn't quite dug in last September though.

    With a week to go to the wedding, the price will finish up at about euro 7k. There have been trimmings here and there but by and large the reduction is recession induced. Top end restaurants have been hit, by own admission if recent paper reports are to be believed, particularily hard. Hotels are as dependant on corporate income as top end restaurants so must be suffering too.

    I'd look around for one to bite your arm off. And I'd wait until the last minute before putting money down - especially if you're not getting married on a peak day.

    Most hotels are offering free corkage or at a reduced rate.
    As the op you will get better deals getting married off peak .

    Im just starting to look now, just looked on internet so far and one thing they can go f**k themselves at those prices. If they aint dropping I will just walk out. At this stage hotel need to be dropping prices, they are doing nothing. We rang a few to go and see and they only have weddings on a Saturday. 2 years ago and they had one per day. Need to drop alot, including the corckage. Now friend at party on Saturday night was saying her mate just told a hotel to get lost with corkage or he would walk out. Didnt have to pay anything on the day. Nice:D

    god we are getting no where with prices in cork, went to fern hill house hotel, not negotiating on anything, the only thing we got was reduced corkage from €10 to €8

    We have our hotel booked since march 08 for sept wedding. We've been back once to negociate price. Got it down a bit, they came down easy enough but of course afterwards we started thinking we should have pushed it more so thinking of going back. Dont want to use the whole thing of reduce the cost or we'll go somewhere else cos we dont want to move and people are booked in already.

    What other bargaining tools are there - I know someone got married there recently and got good reductions. I know the price of power and heating have reduced and most likely they have cut staff wages like everyone else. I just dont want to feel like I'm been taken for a ride and they'll be having a good old laugh the next day when i write the cheque

    Any advice?
