Just picked up a copy of the post there lads and noticed that there are two places looking for staff - the Highway Bar and an unnamed shop. You have to drop a cv into the bar and leave a cv into a box no. with the post for the other one.

Also everyone seems to be handing out cv's around the city which is easy to do but have ye tried the outskirts?

Call the bar and ask for Alan Patterson. He is the manager. Very nice guy. Tell him who you are and that you are a hard worker and reliable.

Knowing the guy very well, this is what he is looking for.(experience would be good also) but calling him will at least get bonus points in the selection process because every tom dick and harry is applying.

What the hell do you think students live off?? and dont even attempt to say parents..

we're not some form of sub-species, we still have to eat, pay rent, pay tuition, pay for books, run a car, etc etc

I'm sick of people giving students that are looking for work a hard time, fcuk off back to college if ye think its such a barrel of laughs.....

how dare you say im not trying,i remember you pulling me up on college grants.you must live in dreamlive where all the companies are hiring
Read what I wrote and untangle your knickers. I never said you weren't trying, I never said everyone was hiring and I have no recollection of a grants conversation, but feel free to post a link and I'll deal with that too.

Therein lies the problem. If you try Ladbrokes, Boyles, Powers, Bamburys, Hacketts or Mulhollands you will surely hear back from one of them. Evening racing has started as I said and with staff taking holidays you could get some part time hours, hell even full time if your lucky. It's worth a try. You could do a hell of a lot worse.

It would appear that the OP has been working throughout the year [open to correction there however]

What about part time education.... still can't apply to Fás

Part-time education implies that you are in education part of the time and only available for work part of the time.

The other issue there is that FÁS pays part of the wage in some of those cases as the people who take them are considered to be in training.

FAS, about as much use as a sack of wet spuds. A waste of taxpayers money. I recall forwarding my C.V. and supplying my details to FAS when I finished college an they did absolutely nothing for me, and that was in the relatively good times. I actually felt I was bothering them when I went in. As if dealing with somebody coming in of the street looking for a job was outside their normal working day duties or something. Hopefully they will be outsed along with FF come next general election.

Was looking for part-time work to supplement my income as I plan to buy a house in the next few years. Haven't being pro-actively looking yet as was at a part-time course up until now. One thing I had in my head was the tyre fitters. There are plenty of them dotted around the outskirts of the city. It surley doesn't require a degree (no offence tyre fitter lads). Would there be any demand for workers from the ones that open on a Saturday? Any thoughts?

Also some folk are suggesting bookies as many are now open for late evening racing. I think I for one would be willing to give this a go. Any experience required though? Appart from dealing with irrate customers I think it might be a handy enough number. Are there any other downsides to it?

Not if they're part-time degree courses..

I know of two people who got jobs around limerick in the past week. They are out there, you just have to look everywhere, use your head and have a decent C.V. ...you would be shocked at some of the stupid **** people put on their C.V.'s

I'm searching for jobs too, and it's not as easy as some people seem to be making out.

I just thought I'd post up about a job going in Jean Scene in Jetland SC. It's a full time, flexi position, if that suits anyone....

how much does that position in jeanscene pay?

I cold call for a living which is pretty similar to job seeking. Except, I ask people for much more money that a whole years minimum wage(to buy my goods and services) so I can advise you the best way to approach any business is:

    Be Well Dressed. Semi Formal.
Blokes - No Jeans, no trainers(not even for Footlocker), No t-shirts with slogans. Slacks, Cords, Shirt or casual polo will do you.
Ladies - Semi Formal. The list would be so long because you have 15 names for tops so common sense should prevail.

Do not ask the staff if they are hiring, EVER.

Ask for the manager or store owner and if they ask you why says its private.

Introduce yourself with your first name and with a handshake. Even people who do not know who you are or what you want will shake your hand. You will easily know if the person is going to entertain you by their strong or wear handshake.

Tell them you are looking for work(obviously) but be ASSERTIVE. You are the person for the job, nobody else irrespective of what job it is.[I have been an engineer, hotel manager, insurance assessor and now sell high value equipment/training. I have never had any formal training or College/UNI] You want the job, you need to earn the job.

If they are NOT hiring they WILL be hiring soon. Everybody does. Give them your CV in an envelope. Everybody else just gives them a few sheets of unstapled paper and they all gets stacked on top of each other. Yours, in a brown envelope, will be the first to be seen.

Apply for positions in newly opened business who have just opened recently because, I guarantee you from professional experience, they will soon let go over 50% of their layabout staff and replace them with new staff.

Pounding the pavement with CV is all good and well but you must be prepared for what you are doing. DO go from door to door but remember to be assertive.

Remember who and what you are applying for / to because a Jeweller wants somebody formal, well spoken, articulate and somebody who can "CLOSE".

Clothes shops want reliable people who have no problem lugging box's all over the place.

Supermarkets dont really care as long as you turn up on time and work hard.

Remember, as important as experience is its not the be all and end all of things. You could have 4 years of UNI but could have the personality of a slimy rock.

    SELL YOURSELF

I don't work there, just saying I noticed there's a job going.you either need a job or you don't. Probably minimum wage.
