I wonder how many people who were offended have laughed at xyz dead celebrity jokes in the past. I agree some of the comments went across a line. There is a difference between making lightening the mood and being insensitive.
Regarding Jade Goody for a moment, I never ripped the piss off her, just criticized the reaction people had, as if everyone had just watched their dog get run over by a tractor. Some people may have known her and thats fine, but then theres other people that follow Ashton Kutcher on Twitter that feel like they were somehow intimate with him...

Sometimes I get away with myself, marveling at the over-reaction of some people. Saying that though I don't piss on corpses much either.
There was a much much worse thread on here before about child abuse, with numerous jokes about rape and abuse and a girl poster told to feck off when she said she found it insulting, I believe a poster also told her 'dont let your dad tap you on the way out'. I lost all respect for AH after that. I come in here sometimes when I see interesting threads on the homepage but not usually.
I hope you reported that one; I certainly would have banned them imo.

when you take serious on those 'serious' posters in AH, you lose the AH spirit already:pac:

aka like opening a thread like this OP.heh

The report post function is there for a reason. It allows the mods to take a temperature check on a thread. The mods can come in and try put the thread back on track, then issue bans or lock it.

Sometimes the posts in question are not breaking any rules so there is little point in reporting them. Instead, the best course of action is to bring it up on thread or start another discussion (like this one) about them.

But if you are complaining in thread then its being dragged off-topic by those posts. Most complaining posts aren't going to guilt people to stop. I'd say they encourage more offensive comments to spite the user complaining

    To answer your question, no.

Unless it's defending the lack of seriousness in AH. Then everybody gets defensive and serious about keeping the humor.

It used to irk me a little, but now I just join in the fun, or i it really bothers me, I don't read the thread.

I disagree that disucssing the content and tone of posts in a thread is dragging it off topic.
Most complaining posts aren't going to guilt people to stop.

And most of the counter arguments aren't going to stop people objecting to the jokes either.
I'd say they encourage more offensive comments to spite the user complaining

I don't know. If that is the case then it's deeply sad.

I tried to be serious once but everybody started wondering where the punchline was, so I gave up:D

Apparently the 3 girls were innocently discussing who would be the better female version of Matthew Fox if the plane crash landed on an island.

And a well known Alanis Morissette song was playing on the radio.

raise the double standard (to half-mast of course).
