I could have started a joke about something as simple as whatever and there's surely someone who would take offense to it out there somewhere in the cyber world and perhaps a regular user of AH. Depending on their personality type, they either lash back or say nothing!

    Define serious?

    regular user????? :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Stepbar there is something wrong with you. You are whinging & giving out about stupid comments & you managed to make one of the most ridiculous replies I have ever read.

What stepbar was trying to say is that when the authorities heard about the abuse cases in Ireland they paid a blind eye to suit their mood. they were in a good mood with the catholic church because religion was very highly regarded at the time.

It was not a ridiculous post.

Stepbar in all fairness ya seem like a nice genuine chap. Ill take on board ( no I honestly didnt mean it like that) what ya said and be a little more cautious in what I post in here from now on about things like this but if I think of something funny I will post it.
To be honest and you must see it by now that your fighting a losing battle. Ya anwered everyones replies to you and ya held your corner well. Your voice has been heard. Your better just leaving it off cos we could go on forever about this and just keep butting heads, which would make us buttheads hmmm. Anyways.

Yeah but what's your view on this? Would a bus eireann school bus crash with funny threads sound frivolous to you? Or would it be ok if it was an airbus A330 north of the equator?

I'll ignore the priest thing because I can and I'd hope you regret typing it. Where did I say it's down to knowing people? All I said was I am more aware of the chance of hurting people's feelings who matter, i.e family of the deceased, when it's Irish people. I still hold the same beliefs and I still found jokes funny I just wouldn't go up to one of their family and say it as that would be where I'd see it as for spite's sake rather than for humour's sake.
Also I am glad you started this topic. Too often (like in the Jade Goody situation) I get more annoyed that topics are closed because people report posts they find offensive. In this situation I have the chance to defend my beliefs openly. Though I have yet to see any sign that you can accept that people have different beliefs than you.

Well I am and I ament taking the piss. As long as I remember I have always laughed at horrible things. Yeah it does sound sick but I dont know if it was a nervous thing or what when I was younger. I remember my best friend years ago (i wa probably around 10) telling me his grandmother had died during the night. I was upset but all I could do was laugh. The second I went to say something to him I almost cried and then amost straight away I started to laugh and I couldnt hold it in, I obviously didnt want to be laughing. Maybe laughing about serious things is just my way of not taking life to seriously or something like that, I dunno.

I tried Forum Posts for Dummies but there wasn't enough pictures involved for me to understand it properly.
I like pictures. Pictures make learning fun.

And I could say vice versa so argument cancelled out ab nausium. But you are still inferring that unless you know the person involved or they happen to be Irish (as you have added there) then its ok to poke fun. Well it's not. The problem with the interweb is you wouldn't say those things in real life. Do you think it should be any different here? <There you go, imposing my views again... bold boy...>

I don't regret typing the priest comment. Why should I? <Bar the under the radar bit, mind you I wasn't thinking about it in that way TBH>

Ok, again. I have no problem with the jokes. I find them funny. I draw the line at directing them at the people involved, something that wasn't done intentionally anyway in AH. Other's that get offended do so purely on their beliefs, which again are not my own.

    Also,
"The problem with the interweb is you wouldn't say those things in real life. Do you think it should be any different here?"

What part of have fun and not take things too seriously made you think I wouldn't say these things in real life. Trust me I ain't no hypocrite what you get online is what you get in the real world. I guess you have to take my word on that.

I thought you might regret the priest comment because quite frankly it made no sense.

Anyway to draw a line under my beliefs it's fine when it's funny and intended for humour rather than spite. Therefore saying it in AH = Fine (In my humble opinion). However I respect your right to be disgusted ;)
