Movies external hardrive corrupt data

Im trying to play movies off my external hardrive (500GB Lacie formatted too fat32), but all the files are coming up corrupt. They work fine on my laptop and there converted to mpeg-4, if i turn off the ps3 and turn it back it works sometimes. Any ideas?

The Ps3 doesn't support many variants of the DivX codec. It might be updated in the future, it might not. Are you running the latest firmware?

I had this problem before when I used mkv2vob to convert files and saving the output file with .mp4 extension. I ended up setting mkv2vob to output files with .avi extension and didn't see this problem again. Could be a similar issue.
