Contesting OMSP from VRT office

Hi,

I was looking at the VRT online site for a Xc90 2005 D5 Se and it showed a Open Market Selling Price of €46,114 for that model which is supposed to represent the average retail price for the car in ROI. However the max price I've seen here is just over €39k (source cbg and carzone) with most in the region of €35k. Any of you out there ever contested the OMSP used to calculate the VRT on import ? is it even possible and if so how ?

I know revenue rely quite a bit on VRT revenue but this is clearly a rip off if they inflate the OMSP to calculate the VRT.

It has been successfully done - use the search function, I remember a few fairly recent threads on the subject.

But the VRT has to be paid first, and then challenged afterwards.

If more people challenge the OMSP then eventually the Revenue should start to look at the figures.

But then again, with the cost of used cars in the UK going up, and the sterling rate becoming less attractive, hopefully cars will soon be worth what they used to be.

Re. XC90 - it doesn't pay to import these.

I was looking to import one of these from UK for a customer for the last few months. Two weeks ago I saw one advertised in Irish Independent and told the customer to buy it as I couldn't match it.

It was a 07, 2.4 diesel auto, 20k kms / 12k miles, demo car, from a Munster-based Volvo dealer. Had been their own demo. Was offered with 12 months tax (920 euro), 2 years servicing and 3 years warranty for 39,995 euro asking price. And they traded in the guy's old car. There is no way you would match that on an import. There was no insider knowledge necessary to find this deal ... it was advertised openly in the daily paper.
