hey I'm just looking for info about the mayo dialect as opposed to connemara/galway gaeltacht. I had the impression they were quite similar (in terms of sound/pronounciation etc.) but today I heard a native speaker from Glengad (Mayo) talking on the news and I actually thought it sounded quite a bit different to the Connemara Irish I'm used to hearing.
Would this be right? That there is a decent difference between the sound/accents of these dialects? Would they use different terms/words in their language? You know like how in Donegal they'd say 'toit' for smoke yet in Munster it's 'deatach'?
Would appreciate any info folks. Cheers again!

Institiúid Teangeolaíochta na hÉireann had a series of books called 'An Teanga Bheo', each book dealing with a different dialect. I'm sure I saw one on Gaeilge Mhaigh Eo. Maybe you're best bet would be to get it online as I don't think many shops stock the series anymore...

Mayo Irish is known to have a number of similarities with Ulster Irish, since there was a certain amount of Gaelic-Irish banished there during the English conquest who left their mark on the language spoken there.

    They're available on litriocht.com for €10 each.
