    votail is a noun isn't it not a verb? So is its use on electon posters incorrect?

    Hm, focail.ie seems to say it's a verb. Seeing "Vótáil Tá" on posters around the referendum was horrible though, it can't be correct grammar...

    http://www.irishdictionary.ie says its a noun....

    figure its a made up irish word so, shove a few vowels at the end of some english and magic like that its as gaelige

    Guthaíocht is too long to use - and can't be molded into a nice short 'Vote No. 1' style phrase!

    I used to think it was incorrect, until I read the ballot paper. The Irish version of the question (constitutional amendment of whatever) asks something along the lines of "An bhfuil tú ag toileadh le........." and you tick the box "Tá" or "Níl". "Tá" and "Níl" are the only possible answers to "An bhfuil". Therefore "Vótáil Tá" or "Vótáil Níl" are perfectly correct and acceptable.

    Seeing as there are no direct translations in Irish for yes and no, this is the only option, no matter how horrible it is on the ear!
