Axe kick / Crescent kick

hi - I've been looking through the combinations for the next grading and it mentions an axe kick in one of them. I'm in class on Saturday so I can get an answer then but am I right in thinking an axe kick is like a crescent kick but straight up and down rather than moving from inside to outside (or vice versa)?

I wouldnt consider this an Axe kick

Generally an axe kick is brought up (lets say your right leg)on the left side of center of your apponent and then at its highest point brought straight down the middle where as a cresent is brought up on the right side of your apponent and then brought straight down the middle.

Axe kick is generally brought up over your opponent and dropped down on them, like an axe.

Crescent kick is used for kicking away a knife out of someone's hands.

Start with an inward crescent kick, but at the apex of motion, bring the foot straight downwards so that it strikes the clavicle (or target area) of your opponent.

At least, that's my understanding of an axe kick.

Crescent kick Goes from left to right/ right to left. Inside crescent kick and outside crescent kick.

Axe kick is straight up and down. (leg will be brought up in a different line to the one it will go down but the momentum is straight up and down rather than around.)

Simples.

It's not kickboking, its Tang Soo Do. And it looks like there is no such thing as a simple answer to a simple technical question
