Not sure if anyone can shed any light on this, but I'm posting on behalf of my bro who recently got a PS3 and new HDTV.

It's a 32" full HD TV and it's playing the games ok and working for TV, but when he plays PS3 games, there's no sound coming through on the TV.

The HDMI cable is plugged in and that seems to be correct and we tried various combinations of connecting what appears to be an audio cable between the PS3 and TV.

    But still no joy.

It's a JVC HDTV and there's nothing to shed any light on this in its manual or the PS3 manual. The last resort will be to ring the JVC customer helpline...

    Any help would be appreciated!

Optical digital audio output is selected, which will disable HDMI audio out.

Can't remember exactly with menu setting its under but should be fairly obvious.

Go into settings, sound settings and just pick hdmi as the sound out option that should sort it for ya.
