Jury Duty

Hey, got called for Jury Duty yesterday. Why does everybody try to get out of doing it?? Whats so bad??

into the city centre early each morning to sit around and see whether
you are selected only to find out after 30 minutes you're not picked for
that day's juries. No parking facilities for jurors around the Four Courts so an
added inconvenience/expense. Repeat for another four mornings and if you're
selected you could be there a lot more than a week.

Get a letter from work saying you are needed there. I got called twice and did this and was excused both times!

What if you are the juror at the trial of a violent Limerick gangland criminal ?
His buddies could be outside waiting for you afterwards or they might pay a visit to your home.

At least this is the sort of thing that goes through the minds of many people when they are called up.

Not everyone tries to get out of it. I found the whole process fascinating but then again I wasn't expecting to see high profile, high drama cases.
I got to sleep a little later then normal and I got home a little earlier the normal plus someone else paid for lunch.
I am disappointed by the number of people who concoct excuses to avoid serving on a jury because they find it a bit inconvenient.

What happens if you simply just don't respond to the letter? Do the follow it up with phone-calls , gardai etc?
