ditto to what satfinder said: - but anyone with clarmont carn data for the pz81?
    :D

Thanks to Tomdub, maxg, and Apogee for all the work.

Put me on the list for a channels file for a 42PZ81 aimed at Three Rock, please! Can Aepos let us know the type of TV Tomdub's file worked for?

If I understand Tomdub correctly it takes two of the same TV to transfer the channels.

I'm guessing that, now that I've lost the channels, I can't just do a factory reset, manually tune the channels (finding the lost ones?), copy them to an SD card, restart my TV and reload them during the auto setup?

That would be great, but is it possible?

My Sony W32S000 did a reset last night (long story). All digital are gone (it decodes them for about .5 second and then goes to just sound). Signal strength is good.

Also- on analogue- another 2 UHF carriers have popped up from 3 Rock (bringing the total to 8).

This thread is focusing on Panasonic probs moreso than anything else. Does anyone have a Sony solution for a similar problem?

    Cheers,

    Shane

    Hi
I have the TX32LZD81 and tried this but I got the "no signal" banner.
I presume this is because I live in Portlaoise. Has anyone got the info that I need?
When I do a scan without the SD card in I get the four radio channels

    Thanks

    @Aepos
In case you missed his request, could I second pipkato in asking what model of Panasonic you got Tomdub's data to work with? Was it the TX32LZD81 or another model?
@everyone who has the TV channels now
Do a backup of your channel list using an SD card, just in case you lose the channels as the rest of us did
    @pipkato
Backing up your data will only be of use once you've got the TV stations back, unless someone can figure out how to edit the backup files - they are not in plain text.
    @smccarrick
the op reported a problem with a Panasonic but we're all having the same problem, Panny owners, Neotion CAM users, etc. The focus on Pannies lately is because maxg has suggested a solution which is Panasonic-specific, and because some Panny owners have tried contacting Panasonic to request them to make the trifling change to their firmware that would fix the problem (without success). Has anyone approached Sony? The issue with your set is the same, and they cannot argue that it's a UK-only set. Maybe there's a case for splitting the thread up.

The procedure for copying data, adjustment and channel information between Panasonic LCD and Plasma TVs only works between identical models. The key statement on the french website is "Important: Les données ne peuvent être copiées seulement entre modèles
    identiques. " See http://www.panasonic.ch/doc/service_dokumente/Anleitung_Einstelldaten_kopieren_mit_SD_extern_FR.pdf

I got this translated because my French was not good enough!

The models covered are "plasma et LCD (modèles 8/80/81/82/85/800) ".

Please do not copy the file I posted to any models other than the Panasonic TX-32LZD81. I don't know if the file will work for the 37 inch model!

Hi Satfinder, sorry I should have said in my post that it is the TX32LZD81.

Re. a fix from Panasonic I would say that persistence is the key to getting anywhere, I have found in the past that getting on to the mother companies such as Panasonic Japan may eventually get results . Cheers Ae

    Hi Guys,

Thanks to all for the help with this ..

I copied the files on my TX-37LZD81 and I can confirm that it worked OK ..

I am in Rathmines and off Three Rock as well ..

Now that the TV channels are back, is the reason for no EPG, A Panasonic specific issue, or an RTENL issue ?
I had noticed that previously with the Radio only channels, I has an EPG ..

    Thanks Again ...

Say someone managed to create a backup for a 42pz81 pointed at 3rock, would that then work for me pointed at maghera?

This may be a silly question but ....

If RTE NL ever revert briefly to their original setup would it be possible to use Tomdub's method to save the channel list to SD on a 42PZ81 and reload it if necessary when they changed back to the current spec?

    It would.

But the chances are, at some point or another, RTÉ will change the PIDs for the channels, and then everyone with a Panasonic will be up sh*t creek. So I'd be inclined to take Aepos' advice above, and anyone with a Panasonic should contact the parent company to ask them to either fix the firmware or provide a long term solution e.g. provide channel editor software.

    Thanks Apogee.

    I'll chase up Panasonic too.

Can we legitimately state that the problem with my 42PZ81 and other similar sets is because Panasonic is not fully up to DVB spec? Or can they fairly claim that these are Freesat, Analogue, and Freeview sets and are not in any way below spec?

    @Ninjakettle
Unfortunately no. Maghera uses a different carrier frequency for its multiplex, so your set would be tuned to the wrong frequency if you uploaded the Three Rock data.

The attached data was taken from a 50PZ81 and applied successfully (phew!) to restore the TV channels on a 46PZ81.

Use with caution, as with Tomdub's data - neither I nor he have any proof that this works in general.

The procedure seems to overwrite ALL your TV settings, not just your channel data. Once you've powered on your TV after following the procedure documented by maxg and Tomdub, go to Menu/Setup/OwnerID and type "0000" followed by your preferred ID.

You will lose any "other channels" (non-freesat satellite ones) and have to reload them. Freesat is configured for the London area (so that the red button will work to get ITV HD). The "new services" notification should be already turned off but check this so you won't easily lose service again.

Channel change is slower than it was, but this is happening in PZ81s that weren't rescanned too - obviously the set has to think about it now before playing back an MPEG4 stream via the UHF tuner, but it gets there.

And "TV3" is currently a test card - don't be too disappointed.

Thanks again to maxg - knowledge is power.

PS I suggest that anyone who used V1 of the attachment should repeat the process with the new version.

The Owner ID information on my target TV was overwritten with the Owner ID information on the source TV. Luckily I had not entered any data on the source TV as I had on the target TV. Anyone posting channel files should first change their Owner ID information and password back to the factory defaults.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭maxg

    @pipkato

If you take a look at the last page of your owners manual you should see a declaration of conformity to the DVB standard for your TV.
Ignoring a channel with service type 0x16 in the firmware despite the TV is technically able to handle channels with such a service type is a breach of that declaration in my eyes.
Service types are defined in the standards EN300468 and TS102323.

    Thanks maxg.

I'll take a look at the manual and see how best to pursue this with Panasonic.

    Hi Tomdub,

I used your file yesterday to restore my channels, Thanks for that ..
I had not changed any of the default data on my tv ...
Is the Owner ID info and password different on each TV as default ?
Or is this something that I should change now?
Or does my TV now think it is yours ? :-)

Are there any implications now that my TV now has the same info as yours ..

    Thanks ,

    Bob

    fyi,

I sent off another email to Panasonic, (thanks to stb for the info) see below:

I think if we all keep emailing them, we might get somewhere

I will let you know their response ..

    to CustomerCare Advisor <CustomerCare.Advisor@eu.panasonic.com>

    Hi There,

Thanks for your response, but I would like to escalate this issue further until I get a satisfactory answer.

Can you please forward this to your Head of Technical Support please ..

In your previous reply you stated that : "It is purely down to good luck that DVB-T channels prior to changes RTE made that now prevents DVB-T reception on the new MPEG 4 system."
This is the weakest reponse to a technical support query that I have ever heard. Good Luck normally does not have any bearing on whether or not electronic goods function as they are designed to and as an engineer, I find that response disturbing.

You also stated that the TV was designed for the UK market and is compliant with it.

Any product that has a DVD LOGO on the front has to be compliant to the standards as defined by the standards body

They should comply to the following standards:

    * ISO/IEC 13818-1 (aka "MPEG: Systems") "GENERIC CODING OF MOVING PICTURES AND ASSOCIATED AUDIO: SYSTEMS" ISO / Motion Picture Experts Group
    * ETSI EN 300 468 "Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB); Specification for Service Information (SI) in DVB systems" ETSI / EBU (DVB group)
    * "Digital Terrestrial Television: Requirements for Interoperability" Issue 4.0+ (aka "The D book") UK Digital Television Group
    * ETSI TS 102 323 Technical Specification: "Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB); Carriage and signalling of TV-Anytime information in DVB transport streams" ETSI / EBU (DVB group)

Please get Panasonic's technical department to clarify that they do comply with these standards.

The reason that my TV no longer works is because it has not followed the specification correctly.

Can you specifically find out if all functions for parsing 'descriptor' elements of information tables in DVB data streams are enabled. Descriptors contain data such as channel names, tuning information for other multiplexes, and information about the audio/video streams making up a channel.

All service types should be defined in the firmware ( these are the typical services that can be found in a DVB multiplex.

    ie

    "digital television service",
    "digital radio sound service",
    "Teletext service",
    "NVOD reference service",
    "NVOD time-shifted service",
    "mosaic service",
    "PAL coded signal",
    "SECAM coded signal",
    "D/D2-MAC",
    "FM Radio",
    "NTSC coded signal",
    "data broadcast service",
    "RCS Map",
    "RCS FLS",
    "DVB MHP service",
    "MPEG-2 HD digital television service",
"advanced codec SD digital television service",
"advanced codec SD NVOD time-shifted service",
"advanced codec SD NVOD reference service",
"advanced codec HD digital television service",
"advanced codec HD NVOD time-shifted service",
"advanced codec HD NVOD reference service",

If all of these service have been defined , specifically "advanced codec SD digital television service", then my television will have no problem working in Dublin

This should be a relatively simple issue to fix by releasing a new firmware upgrade that could be downloaded from your website .

I see that this approach has already been taken in other markets where Panasonic value their customers, like the US ...

I appreciate you following up this issue for me and I look forward to your response,

    Rgds,

Well done on the Pani fix.... I didnt fully understand how to change the model ID and password ?
Presume this doesnt effect the freesat settings ???

    Suggestion for Panasonic Users:

Once you have recovered your files per Tomdubs instructions, you should add these channels to your DVB profile/Favorites. That way should a change occur or someone rescans your TV, you still have them in your favourites list.

Sometime ago I witnesed this on the Sony Bravia Range whereby it displays the video of the channel for a millisecond and then you get audio only. The only way of resolving it was adding all the channels to a favourites list and browsing the channels from the favourites list. It worked for me a while back. Sounds like the same issue.

It seems that having a favourites list as back up is the guaranteed solution for those idtvs giving problems.

That should be DVB LOGO Bob. Hopefully someone with a bit of cop reads it as such.....:)

As far as I can ascertain, the file that I posted contains all of the TV settings and TV and radio channels for Freesat,Other Sat,DVB and Analogue that I set up on my source TV before the copy. The Other Sat channels are in no particular order and should be deleted or added to as required. The DVB channels include the 4 Irish TV channels and the 4 radio channels ( 2 copies as I added new DVB services on that TV). The second set 808,809,810 and 811 contain the EPG information and can be shown or hidden using the DVB Service List option.

Do not do a rescan on the DVB channels ( Auto Setup on the DVB Tuning Menu) or you will lose the TV Channels as I did on my second TV and it brought me here! I now have to set up all the Other Sat channels for SKY, ASTRA and HOTBIRD ( particularly the HD channels) that I had on the other TV.

Using the DVB Profile option to store the TV channels as favourites will not save them in the case of a rescan.

Could I suggest that anyone using Panasonic SD card data supplied on this thread to "fix" their Panasonics should first do a backup of their existing set-up. That way if you don't like how your settings have been changed, just to get four channels digitally (TV3 is back on Three Rock, btw), you can easily go back to the Way Things Were. Unless the data wasn't compatible with your set, in which case nobody knows what happens...

Fair play for bugging panasonic with the email Bob11. I'll do the same but might i suggest that you try and get a case number off them so I (we) can refer to it in our own emails. Otherwise i'd say our emails will just be absorbed by panasonic on an individual basis.

    Cheers.
