    you didnt say your isp
most ppl get online without a hitch
nat 2 should be fine, try for 1 if you can, least you know then nothing should be blocking your connection
upc users seem to have ps3 problems the most

This has happened me recently too.

I wonder are they taking out a few servers and putting them to better use?

    COD6?

    NAT-2 is ok
You need to ensure you have all the right ports forwarded. Don't rely completely on UPNP as some routers have issues with it.

this is what I have forwarded
    TCP: 3074, 2095, 3478, 3479, 3658
    UDP: 3074, 3075, 80, 443, 5223

There may be one other port - will check the router when I get home and post if I've missed something.

That said - I had a lot of issues trying to connect with BT users over the weekend. Not sure what was going on, but was very frustrating. One was my brother - and he reported he was just getting the "Downloading Game Settings" all the time. It resolved itself eventually...

just checked router - it's as I said above...

The only thing I want to add is that the port 2095 is very important (as are all of them). A lot of sites I've seen give the other ports, but not 2095.
Sometime in Novemeber last year IW did something on servers and I got the infinite "downloading game settings". I did router firmware upgrades, ps3 firmware - everything. In the end it came down to this one port.
