Replacing a gas fireplace with solid fuel.

The house is approx 5years old so the chimney should comply with all current regs.

You need to check ( have checked) that the flue is suitable for a solid fuel fire: there are many estates built in last 5 years with gas fired open fires that cannot be converted to solid fuel because the flue is too narrow and the liner is only suitable for fumes etc from a gas fire.
The other work is not hard, just have the gas disconnected and the pipe terminated outside the fire place, remove the gas fire and put in the new grate as long as you have a hearth that complies with Part J.
