tdfsb - a cool Tron-like view of your filesystem

I just saw this mentioned on the ubuntuforums and tried it out. It's really cool. To run it on Ubuntu:

sudo aptitude install tdfsb

then run it with

tdfsb

press h for help once in screen so you see what buttons do what.

f brings it to full screen.

Navigate with mouse or arrow buttons. If you fly into one of the white spheres you go into the subfolder and see all the stuff there.

Reminds me of that scene in Jurrasic park where the girl is
navigating the irix box's file structure using the 3d browser.

Cool concept, though you can see why something like this never really caught on.

Yeah, they were discussing that in the thread I found it in. That's called fsn and someone on the forum said they had got it running recently. It looks like it's not been maintained for a few years though. See the ubuntuforum thread here:

Interesting, wouldn't be a bad project. Bit of OpenGL programming and should be possible get something close. Could open all readable ASCII files too and display contents on screen.
