NIB Charge to Lodge a Euro Halifax Cheque?

My father lodged a pair of Halifax cheques to his NIB current account. They charged him 2% because "they are foreign cheques". These were Halifax Ireland cheques, in Euro - I know because I wrote them! Is this really NIB policy?

Probably a misunderstanding by a confused staff member, most likely. He should chase it up with his contact in NIB

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago with a MBNA cheque. Took me a while to get refund but I thought all of this carry on ceased when Danske came aboard.

If it was a normal euro cheque from a branch in the Republic then yes, it was a bank error and should be refunded. If, however, it was a euro cheque drawn on a branch outside the Republic, eg Northern Irish Branch, UK branch, then it is classed as a foreign cheque and fees will apply.
