Halogen Linear Bulbs

Can u use dimmer switch on those 150 watt halogen linear bulbs. What happens if u do use a dimmer.

Yes it can be dimmed.
I am guessing that you mean a "J type" like the one in the link below.

Lamps like this draw a very large currnet on initial switch on. This cause arcing that can damage a switch after prolonged use. Therfore it is best to "derate" the dimmer switch you are using. This means that if lighting load you are trying to dim is say 300W use a dimmer switch rated at 500VA rather than 300VA.

yes just buy quality dimmer and de-rate by at least 20%

Eactly.
Many chaep dimmers are a waste of money. They often fail or buzz after a very short time.

MK are great but very pricey.

Thanks. The light was actually used on a dimmer but it dosent dim now. The dimmer still turns it on and off but dosent dim it. Not sure but dimmer prob broken but still seems to turn light on and off. Strange.

The dimmer has just died that is all. Replace it with a good one!
