Clearly any child wearing a GAA jersey now will be throwing bombs not balls in five years time. YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO VIGILGANT!

    I know it's a joke,
but it's just the kind of thing that is going to teach these children that discrimination etc. is ok sadly.

    - Young child, like sports, raising money.
    - Houlier than thou, jerk, tells them they're little offensive children who need to go home and follow his rules.
    - Young child grows up, bitter taste in mouth from UUP jerk. 99% will have nothing more than an annoying feeling towards that one man, but if just one person then generalises based on the actions of that one man and decideds protestants are as a whole bad people, someone can die etc. (I know overly dramatic)

What I think I'll do is write a letter to the councillor in question and condemn his behaviour and absolutely cut him down on all his points of view, which will be fairly easy as he is a big, slack jawed cretin and I am fairly intelligent. I think I will then follow this up with a succession of Freedom of Information requests coupled with threats to report them to the Equality Commission if they do not reply satisfactorily within the relevant timescale to p1ss them off rightly.

This was a ridiculous approach to take by the UUP at a time when we're trying to establish a bit of concord in this part of the world. In the eyes of thick people in Antrim and beyond now, the persecution of someone associated with GAA has been legitimised.

Who said it was a direct approach by the UUP? wasnt it just ONE councillor?

I am neither Catholic nor Protestant I am Pro choice and its his choice to get offended as its our choice to be morally outraged and scream injustice and point fingers. I cant seem him getting offended if it was his local team however. I do believe you are now yourself reacting the wrong way completely and going down a path tthat would lead the same retorts form the opposite direction.

btw when you write this letter citing the Freedom of Informaiotn act, wat information are you requesting they give you? Why they have a 'a big, slack jawed cretin' as a councillor? and your... what... God?

Fair enough, you are right, I'm going a bit OTT. But it's just so hard to tolerate these people and their completely unfettered ignorance. It is galling to think that they have power over us within the Council. They are just rabble rousers who get re-elected by rabbles that like being roused. I wish we had councillors and politicians who concentrated their efforts on much more worthwhile pursuits.

    Jesus, he is Deputy Mayor:eek:

Also responsible for Leisure and development...nice bit of developing sporting links there:rolleyes: and also responsible for the bonfire sub-committee. They have a section of the council who look after bonfires??

... who was representing the UUP.

That may be true, but when young kids were affected by it, is it not reasonable to be repulsed by his bigotry? It's also yet more of the sh1t that was causing all the conflict which is supposed to be something of the past now.

There will always be extremists who will use something like this as leverage to push their agenda (examples of it on this thread but in fairness, not too many) however people are objecting to it in a reasonable manner and I think they've grounds for it.

Where did he give the impression he thought he was that superior? At least he's not a sectarian bigot.

Mods, would it be possible for post no. 67 to be deleted? The information is in the public domain but it was wrong of me to put it here. It's just hard to keep oneself in check when confronted with such ignorance.

@ Javaboy - I see your ahead of me!!! Thanks. I didn't think that one through.

I completly agree with you. I do think that you should write to them and request an answer as to why THEIR REPRESENTATIVE took it upon himself to raise this issue and does that mean this is a party stance. That this 'council' condems youth and societies and communties from being free from their own biggotry and insolence!

And keep writing, not emails, letters. Make them tell you WHY he thought it offensive!

I wouldn't bother me what they were wearing, I just dislike the practice that they almost make you feel like you have to contribute to their charity.
I'll pack my own bags thank you. I don't think shops should allow it, regardless
of the charity or what they are wearing. I go to the shops to shop, then at the end, I am being subtly asked to give to charity?

Same in pubs, you go for a quiet drink and next some pain in the arse is over asking you for charity money. Feck off please. It's the establishment that is
    to blame.

    .
coudlnt agree more but their are ways and means... and the point would be more.... well... to the point if it was constructed in a less aggressive ott way. It would be listened to more respectfully and maybe acted on rather than dismissed because its an implusive over the top way to put forward your arguement.

he more than likely is tho
Superior or a sectarian bigot? If the latter, Jigsaw is actually a northern protestant. :)

The extra euro or two into a bucket for a good cause is harldy worth whinging about. You'll need charity yourself some day. Every one does at some stage.
Maybe you sat at home moping around all your childhood thats fair enough. But many of us have benifited from charities like sports clubs, youth clubs etc. etc. primary schools needing new roofs etc.
Money for these kinds of things is needs to be raised in some way.

From experience I'm guessing, your due an operation to remove a silver item of cutlery from a certain orafice?

Richer people tend to be stingiest when it comes to charity from my experience.

Northern Ireland. The clue is in the name. They are Irish, they just happen to be UK citizens. Same for a Scottish person living in Scotland, or a Welsh person living in Wales. Ireland is an island populated by Irish people, it just happens to be divided by a border and some people in one part of the island prefer to identify as British.

I am from Northern Ireland and I am Protestant. However, I consider mysef Irish and I couldn't care less whether I was Protestant or Catholic. I'm not particularly religious in any event. I want the people in Northern Ireland to forget about these petty sectarian quarrells. I judge people on how they conduct themselves regardless of colour/creed. I also treat others as I, myself, would like to be treated. I've been to Croke Park on several occasions to see Donegal play (dad is from there).

Yes I do believe I am superior to Adrian Watson because I have the ability to rise above a situation and assess it objectively which clearly he cannot do. His cognitive process was, "there's GAA shirts, GAA is what Catholics play, I hate Catholics, so I hate GAA"

He is a man who can only see black or white. I consider myself to be superior to anyone who falls into this category.

Hmm and some believe the Scots who were planted were themselves decended from 9th/10th century Irish settlers.

Eh, why ? That's Tesco Ireland, this didn't happened in a store ran by Tesco Ireland. It's similar to mailing BBC about some crap show on RTE.

Tescos in the north won't give a toss (obviously), this is likely to have more of an effect on Tescos in the south as the GAA supporting population is much greater here. Better to mail Dún Laoghaire than wherever the Tesco complainst office is in England.

BBC and RTÉ are different state broadcasters. Tescos are Tescos

And to paraphrase you, Tesco down here will give even less of a toss because for daily opertating purposes they're effectively different companys.
