Hi. just turned on my ps3 earlier and it said harddisk database needed to be rebuilt. It then went to a load bar and loaded up. Anyone know what this means or why did it happen?

are you close to capacity? Sounds like a defrag or indexing program. Did you recently move a lot of files over to your PS3 like pictures or music?

FYI, it happened to me after a succession of forced resets due to browser freezes.

As for the DB thing, happened to me 6 months ago, has'nt happened since then.

I have about 5gb free space and no browser freezes in the last couple of weeks. havnt moved any files either. no harm was done and nothing was lost. i was just curious as to why it happened.

5MB free, you sure its not 5GB?
If you are really down to 5MB, its time to clear some old stuff off or get a new HDD.

Like I said, happened to me after a forced reset (which I had to do after the browser froze). Forget about the browser for a second, any forced reset.
