    Hello,

Thinking of buying and old cottage. Will a structural engineer be able to checkout non-structural issues like water and sewage/septic tank etc. ?

If not who should I hire to have these things checked out properly?

    Cheers

The ideal person would be a building surveyor, just mention that you want the sewage / spetic tank checked as well. www.scs.ie

Is this a property that you are buying or already have?

I think talk to the surveyor, explain where you are and see what he thinks. The seller won't want him doing invasive investigations by everyone and their cousin, but you can make you an offer, but make it subject to survey, funding, etc. (I presume you have a solicitor lined up). That way the seller has a bit more certainty.
