and Pluto doesn't even count anymore.

In your horoscope Pluto symbolizes death, rebirth, sex, evolution, degeneration and regeneration, and symbolizes the breakdown of psychological blocks that prevent evolutionary growth

The Mayans did not believe the world would end! Their calendar runs on 394-year cycles called baktuns, the 12th baktun ending on 21-12-2012, but there's nothing to indicate that we wouldn't just enter the 13th baktun.

Omigod, the 13th baktun, the 13th. We are doomed.

Slap her, and slap her hard...

Ah late teen fads :) She went through the catholic thing for a few months before blurting out aliens put us here and the world is ending in 2012. She can only be wrong for 3 more years and at least she never did the goth/emo thing.

The polar magnet yokes are probably going to flip in 2012 but i doubt it will cause the world to end. Just like the miles to KM changeover, the government will give us stickers to remind us to flip our compasses the other way around.

They'll probably send us all out a pack of iodine tablets too. Y'know, just in case.

End of the world? Nah... Its the galactic alignment of our sun with the center of our galaxy. It signals the end of Pisces and the beginning of a new age, can't remember off hand... I think our view of the stars will change by 6 degrees (massive amount considering!).

Funnily enough there was a global event 26000 years ago (the last ice age began) afair so maybe your right, we could all be quite screwed :pac:
This Galactic Alignment occurs only once every 26,000 years, and was what the ancient Maya were pointing to with the 2012 end-date of their Long Count calendar.

Tbh what I think/hope is that its inversion of our being, matter becomes the metaphysical and we all continue on to the next stage of evolution.
    But thats just me...

It's all an intricate hoax by the ancient Mayans. They invented the calender in order to trick people in the future.

Anyone who's studied Mayan culture will know they loved practical jokes and invented the rubber spider on a string.

The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count, unlucky for some), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. It will come to resolution at exactly 11:11 am GMT, just like World War 1 (did the Mayans use GMT ?)

Actually the truth is very simple. The aliens have been doing a long time test on us and we have until then to get the right answer. IIRC it's 42

Because I've missed every apocalypse so far, it's annoying.

There was a prediction that something would happen on good Friday over on the Christianity forum not so long ago. Missed that one too, but maybe she was predicting the shocking lack of Easter eggs available after so called good Friday.

IIRC it's like this, there is a tenth planet that's orbit is at a 90º angle to the rest of the solar system, every however many tens of thousands of years it's orbit brings it very close to Earth, and when that happens the Earth tilts on it's axis by however many degrees, which causes chickens to stop laying and cows to go off their milk and you probably won't get any post delivered for a few days. Apparently the Earth has so far tilted nearly 50º from it's original upright position (Antarctica was a land mass on the equator a bazillion years or so ago).

    so now you know.

WW1 ended at 11:00 on 11-11-1918, not at 11:11. And why on earth would the Mayans measure time by Greenwich?

Our view of the stars only changes gradually.
