is it just me or is the inappropriateness of it that makes it so funny?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPAfFML8aq8

the song is also pure ****e.

obviously the deaths aren't funny, r.i.p and all that but like it was a long time ago. sure there was a stadium collapse in ivory coast a few weeks ago and hardly a word about it.

obviously now you have the nutcases saying he should be battered and and kicked out of where he's from and that he better get out of their country or he won't be safe.

Typical western media coverage, they aren't white so it's barely worth reporting

I wouldn't say Hillsborough got much coverage in the Ivory Coast either tbh.

what disrespect? He didn't do anything that i can see!
He moved a bit, as most black guys do to music, Charles obv can find a bit of rhythm even in a crap song like that!! The singer should thank him!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,967 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Just swaying to the rhythm of the music.
I'd imagine if you went to the Church he or his family goes to they do they say when the choir is singing

Of course, others are imposing their standards and expecting him to sit like a statue with a look of sadness.
Maybe he should have done this but either way, so what?

I needed to Google his name to find out who the hell he is.
And then watch the video 3 times to look for him.

    Christ on a stick!

This is the media at its small minded petty best.

Nothing to get ****ty over. Not even the fans and family can complain much about this.

Ya, he is an employee of LFC. But christ, it isn't offensive.

Stevecw, don't stereotype based on race.

White guys have names like Lenny, whereas black guys have names like Carl.

I don't see the big deal tbh. It's not as if he took the piss out of anything.

Typical scouse reaction to threaten him

What exactly is this thread about. Threats? I have no idea.
sure there was a stadium collapse in ivory coast a few weeks ago and hardly a word about it.

That's not true. I saw it many times on different news programmes.

Can someone tell me who or what I'm supposed to be looking for

You can bet if Steven Gerrard had done exactly the same thing we'd have heard nothing about it. The reason this clip is being pushed is because player in question (Charles Itandje) is not a favourite of the manager and he wants him gone from the club. However Itandje still has 2 years left on his contract and has proved has been unhelpful in Liverpools attempts to relocate him to another clubs. Certain people clearly saw this an opportunity to get him sacked therefore negating the need to pay his remaining wages. Football clubs are really just like any other ruthless businesses when you get right down to it.

As an aside, it's no stereotype to say Liverpool really is the home of grief and one does get tired of listening to them. Whether it be Boris Johnson or Hillsborough you never hear the end of it. The fan favourite stand in their home stadium is even named after a battlefield in South Africa where 1000 British soldiers were killed! Cheer up lads, you were the home of the Beatles once!

that's ridiculous! I can't believe they suspended him

Oh FFS, I'm a Liverpool fan 22 years, I was 6 when Hilsborough happened and happy to say I don't really remember it! I try to get over there a couple of times a season. This is the type of ****e moaning that really pisses me off about Liverpool fans. Yes campaign for Justice for the 96 but don't expect everyone to grieve or act in the same manner! Who here hasn't laughed or made a joke at an inappropriate time? Scousers are suppose to have a sense of humour, live with it!

It should be done & dusted after the below!

    SUSPENDED ITANDJE SAYS SORRY
Paul Eaton 18 April 2009 press-160807-09.jpg Charles Itandje has today apologised for his behaviour during the Hillsborough service - as Liverpool Football Club announced he has been suspended for 14 days. On the instructions of team manager Rafa Benitez, the French goalkeeper was told not to attend training yesterday as the club conducts an investigation into his actions during Wednesday's memorial service at Anfield.

"Charles Itandje has now been officially suspended for 14 days by the club while we investigate his conduct during the Hillsborough Memorial Service," confirmed a spokesman.

Itandje has today issued a full and unreserved apology for his behaviour during the service, and pledged to meet with the Hillsborough families to apologise in person.

"First of all, if my behaviour has caused offence to anyone then I can only apologise," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry. A thousand times, I am sorry.

"To the club, to the fans and especially to the families, I am deeply sorry.

"It was, of course, never my intention to offend or disrespect anyone.

"The events at Hillsborough were a tragedy and in no way did I mean to disrespect the memory of what happened 20 years ago. I would never do that. I would like to speak to the families in person to offer my apologies to them because, like I said, I never meant to hurt anyone."

Investigation into laughing, seriously. As Burkatron said who hasn't laughed when they shouldn't. I've laughed at loved ones funerals, never mind their 20 year anniversaries.

I'm totally shocked at the hateful comments on the sky website - madness!

I can KINDA see the issue. Swaying to the music? Do you think he likes that music?

Of course not, he's acting the bollocks. Just like if there was a minutes silence and he kept talking, you just don't do it. You can even see the that bloke next to him is not impressed.

In saying that, he shouldn't be suspended over it.

I don't know... I think Charles is a nice singer but the lyrics are a bit dodgy.

I thought it was a beautiful touch having a song performed in the style of Phoenix Nights.

Apparently the singer has been booked for the 25th anniversary memorial of the Bradford Stadium disaster.

In fairness, the inappropriateness (and awfulness) of that song is one of the most lolworthy things I've ever seen.

Considering Steven Gerrard's cousin was one of the 96 thats unlikely.

Way to miss the point. Ok Fernando Torres then.

Didn't Torres make statements to the press about being very committed to the Hilsborough memorial?

I heard all the radios were stolen out of cars parked outside during the memorial.
