Daffodils - can I dig the bulbs up and store them for next year?

The green leaves are just taking up space, I would like to replace them with something else and replant the bulbs in Sept.

    Can I do this?

you need to let the green leaves grow for a bit to put energy into the bulb. I'd leave them for a month after flowering at least.
