Dart Players in Waterford

I almost said darters there haha

There's going to be a new weekly League/Cup taking place in a Waterford venue in May. It's open to regular players as well as people who just like to throw arrows for fun and who hope to get better in time.

I'm looking for some experienced players who would like to help run this weekly event. You can still play every week, but you'd be helping out with the format of the league as well as maintaining it on the night. There will be a fee each monday which will go towards a prize fund and also paying the 1-2 people (a modest amount) who will be running it.

I was asked to run the league but I don't really have the time. The first thing I did though was contact some local people who are involved in teams and leagues etc. Straight away I saw that these people had become so deep in "dart politics" that they definitely weren't the people needed to make this work.

Anyone interested can let me know...or indeed anyone who has any pearls of wisdom when it comes to the dos and don'ts of running a weekly darts league...please post them here.

any word on whos running it ? is it a city league or a can others play ?

All I know is that it's not going to be run by anybody currently involved in the darts circuit in Waterford. There will be 4-5 dart boards, with one main board on a stage with a camera aimed at it.

I presume there will be a handicapped league system and an all in cup scenario.

I do...I play in the Rising Sun every week...just with a mate of mine. You should have seen the faces the first time we came in with the laptop and the N01 software. They all love it now.

I'm trying to find out now. Bit ludacris that he's asking for my advice but won't even tell me where it's going. I think it's going to be a harveys or masons. Would have to be somewhere that size.

probally. Not exactly darts houses. The late bar could be good if the darts are bad!:)

It's Masons. I haven't been in there in a while but apparently they're launching as a sports bar soon. They've installed new screens and have put in 2 pool tables with the dart boards on the way. According to the email -
    Mondays - Darts League
    Tuesdays - Poker
    Wednesdays - Pool Tournament
    Thursdays - Quiz Night
    Friday - coyote ugly night

    All drinks €4

I don't care where it's on if I can get a bottle of cider for €4

Just been informed that advertising for this won't commence until next week and anybody who'd be interested in helping out running it can contact an email address I was given. PM for details.

Unfortunately under 18s would not be allowed take part. A pity, but it would be on a premises that would be selling alcohol.

Fair play to Masons for relaunching, a sports bar is badly needed in the city centre as we currently have none. Be great to have a pub with four or five boards where you could get a game most of the time:D

wondering would it be the fact that nobody was going in there during the week have something to do with it ?? if masons was doing well would they have it ????:D . anyway told few lads so hopefully

lol I love this attitude...Look at them all selling umbrellas just cause it's raining...pah. People complain about pubs and shops not doing anything to give people better value for money....and then when they do.... [see above]

what you plannin on running. will it be just a game of darts on a monday nite or will it run for x ammount of weeks with players gettin points to form a league? there is pros and cons to both. but i have rules book made up for the league i run and can e mail it two ya if it helps.
one thing ive learned is have rules clear from stard and have everything covered so then can be any rows.

Here's something that I suggested to him...

Basically we get a load of players down for the first night and lay on some food & drink and just throw it out to the flower how they'd like it to be run. That way there's no use and them attitude and everybody gets a say in how things are done. There will be 4 boards originally. The N01 software will monitor the main board all night so we'll be able to see scores on half the screens and classic darts matches on the other screens.

A €4 drinks menu and food menu will be available all night also.

Why couldn't this be in Dublin? Sounds like a great idea.

They've gone with Winmau Blade III boards. What you guys reckon about that?

Oh controversial. Personally I think the Eclipse Pro is a much better board. They both have practically zero bounce outs but the wires are much thinner on the eclipse pro making the scoring section bigger and makes for better darts games. The wires are far too thick on the Winmau board and I don't understand how they have not made the wires thinner by this stage.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion but Eclipse for me everytime.

I think they set out to get one of either board (after reading a thread on here) and the eclipse was harder to find around town and they wanted to have the boards up for the weekend. It's a decent enough board all the same.

They are not coming over till September though apparently because Mardle's schedule is too busy
