My Ronnie: to wax or just leave it alone?

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice here. I have dark upper lip hair and while it bleaches fine I am just obsessed with people staring at it in certain lights or when foundation tends to stick to it.

I have always thought about lip waxing but seeing a few people has turned me right off it (1) workmate, who admittedly has more testosterone than some fellas, gets it done along with chin wax and it grows back all thick and stubbly. (2) former housemate gets its done and when I sit next to her up close I see stubble and a 5 o clock shadow. (3) Another friend said leave hair on face alone, once u start waxing or messing with it there is no going back.

What does everyone think? Iv v dark hair but when I get my legs waxed it gorws back light and soft, would that be the same on my face? Does it grow back thicker and/or darker? Would people notice the 'stubble'.

Gross I know but it can affect my confidence sometimes when I talk to guys as I feel there are staring at the Ronnie...!!!

All experiences and advice needed!

Ah you poor thing.....I haven't got the same problem but one of the mornings last week they were talking about this on Ireland AM, and the girl that does the beauty section said the only way to completely/permanently remove dark facial hair is with laser. It doesn't work on fair hair for some reason? Hope this helps:)

Get it waxed!
If it grows back all horrible.....Get it waxed again!!

Women who think they can cover up their ronnie's by bleaching it....simply can't!

Perhaps consider laser treatment? Used to work in a salon that did it and we had a huge number of women come in for it. It isn't hugely expensive to get the lip done either. Waxing really needs to be kept up but of course it needs to grow back before you can get it waxed again.

If you've dark hair, laser is more likely to work for you than if the hair is light. You can shave the hair in between treatments but you can't pluck or wax it so that's an advantage I suppose. Look into it sure, can't do any harm to consider it!

For people that say "oh but if you waxed you'd have to do it really often" - so what? As a bloke I get hair above my lip every day and I shave it every day, just do the same. Guys always notice it, always so wax or laser but don't keep it even a day unless you know you won't be going outside.

threading is amazing, I would go for that defo. I started waxing it, as when I was in Beauty College we had to practice on each other, so i have to do it all the time now. But sometimes its not long enough to wax. With threading, they can take out the shortest hair.
I hate the look of bleaching, I used to work with a girl that bleached, and its so obvious, its horrible!

Thanks everyone for the comments.
So I bit the bullet and went for the waxing, it goes againts all my logic but Im sure all the laydees who have gotten it done havent all grown beards since then!
It stings a lot now and it v red but Im looking forward to putting on make up on 2m when it calms down.
I am still nervous of what will happen regrowth wise but I suppose its just another couple of €€ on my beautician bill along with the legs and bikini.

Electrolysis can be very time consuming and expensive.

Laser is very effective, especially of you have very dark hair and fair skin....although with Laser you can't sunbathe when having it done, or use false tan on the area, it shouldn't be too expensive to have the upper lip done but it is generally the most stubborn place to completly remove the hairs and can require many sessions ....although i know somewhere in dublin was doing an offer that you pay for say 10 sessions then have the rest free for life

also with laser hormonal changes ( pregnancy etc) can cause the hairs to regrow!

As a fella I would suggest going laser before waxing it. I dread to imagine a girl having stubble on her upper lip

I always see girls with darkened skin over their lip from constant waxing

You can get a home-laser/electrolysis kit from Argos for like 100 euro, not sure how good it'd be though

Also, i think it'd be cheap enough to get done somewhere, as its a small area, and shouldnt need too many do-overs

I use Imaac (sp?) it works fine, just leave on for 5 minutes and wipe off. Far easier and cheaper than laser.

Stubble after waxing? That means they are probably breaking your hairs. Waxing should remove the hair at the root, so a whole fresh hair with a soft point eventually grows back.

Do think about trying laser, though. I bet a salon would do a deal for you these days. I had four sessions on my underarms and the results were incredible.

Op back again,

thanks for all the suggestions. I was defo considering laser except I am going away to the States for 8 weeks starting in 8 weeks time so I didnt think I would fit enough courses of it in before I go. I suppose the waxing is just a temporary measure untill I get back home again and can round some money up too!

Boots do a fantastic own brand facial hair remover. It a cream and you leave it on for couple of mins then get a baby wipe and wipe it off. I use it about every 2 weeks and find it brill. Tried waxing before and walked around with a bright red line above my upper lip for several hours...not attractive! Try the cream, I'd really recommend it.

I use this as well and really recommend it. I have sensitive skin and have no problem with it. I usually use it at night before heading to bed and it works a treat

I find creams still leave you with stubble when it grows back which is why i have been getting laser treatment for the last 4 months - my chin was very bad. I have to get electrolysis on the blond hairs but there is a definite improvement in slowing regrowth and bald patches are showing, its slow but it works.

Maybe it was the cream, i used Nair so maybe ill give the Boots own brand a go on the side of my face i tend to get 'downy' hair there

Terrified of waxing and having people seeing stubble coming back, my hair is thankfully very fine and blonde, but there's a lot of it

Threading is the way to go, re-growth is slower than with waxing. But ultimately, i'd get it lasered if i were you.

I buy veet facial strips and wax my own lip and eyebrows. Much cheaper than the beautician, I do it just before I go to bed aswell so the redness is gone by the morning. Tricky the first two or three times but now I'm a pro.
