I signed up after reading a Mashable article "Who to follow on Twitter". I soon found out that I had chosen to follow too many people and that some people updated way too often for my liking. I also found out that I have nothing interesting to say:D

I think it's a good/great way of keeping up to date with something/someone who needs to update often. - if you're following development of some kind, if you like hearing what famous people are up to, etc.

You know, I want to be with the times, I really do, but I just think it's a lot of effort. I don't have a myspace page, I'm not on facebook or bebo, and I can't even remember the last time I signed on to friendster. I can barely remember to update my blog, my sad little pathetic blog.

    I'm a failure!

    so we have

Face party (get layed on the net )
    myspace ( music )
    bebo

    Tagged
    and now another one

    does it ever end???

    does it ever end???

I started a public chatroom in Skype called Durkastan which was very interesting for a few days. The only rule was that you could only speak Durka in the chatroom, so it went something like "Durka ? Durka durka durka durka durka, durka durka durka durka" etc.,
The laughing wore off after a while...

If I wasn't a techy person I might kind of see the point in all these social networking crap but, none of it impresses me at all and it all seems pretty pathetic and pointless. Would prefer to login to PlanetSide or Wow and go kill people instead.

is it supposed to impress you or is it supposed to keep you in touch with people ? Ive found about 30 people i havent seen in years on it :D....
I do see the point in them yes there ridiculasly powerfull money spinner's but its the new interenet craze like you tube, or ebay, they do serve a perticualrly good purpose..... It just apears as tho people are sighning up to them because they have nothing better to do with them selves ...

I tried Twitter for a few weeks, decided it was pointless and deleted my account.

Same here, except I decided to delete it after about two days

Hell no! If I ever do, somebody bring it to my attention that I will have actually lost all interest in life and just not noticed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,717 ✭✭✭Nehaxak

Yeah now YouTube and ebay are good but just this whole social networking stuff, it's, I dunno, I just don't get it. Don't see any fun or point in it at all.

I get my social networking kind of fix from the likes of Planetside and WoW, where you can play online with hundreds of others, get a good guild or outfit and use Teamspeak or Ventrilo to talk while killing stuff or just chat with others. Spoiled really with those two games for the "social networking" type aspect and just don't see the point in the bland, static stuff like twitter, facebook etc., If others do then grand, whatever does it for you I guess.

Heheheh this is funny. I can't wait to look back on this thread in years to come and see how people's opinions have changed. I'd say if you did a boards search for 'Facebook' you'd find threads from a few years ago with people saying its sh1t and has no point or use - I'd bet a massive amount of them are now serial facebook users. You simply cannot deny that it is a fantastic tool for communicating and connecting with people.

Social networking is here to stay - get used to it. If you think it's stupid, as someone already said - you just don't get it. 200 Million people can't be wrong.

ys it's a great way for communicating or stalking celebrities but most people abuse it and say something stupid every 10mins

Correction. 200 million attention whores. They often have all of them covered. Bebo, facepalm, and Titter.

No, dont use it. I'm not fully aware of what its for, but if its some sort of service where you post up what you're doing at any given time for the whorld to see...then it seems to me that only self centred basturds would use it. Who cares what you're doing during your day you cnunt!!

Google doesn't index Facebook pages though, does it?

Never have a term I searched for return anyone's Twitter page.

You can expect that to change, as Google are allegedly buying Twitter.

I have an account, don't post on it myself TBH, but do check in on it everyday to get updates.

It's like a handier RSS feed IMO, if you're "following" people in an industry that interests you. Links to various news items, links to sites/blogs that contain something relevant/interesting, on-set photos from film directors, etc.

Could not be arsed following some random person who tweets that they're eating a burger or having a poo though. Urgh.

If you've got a group of friends on it, coupled with handy resources from various websites, it can be quite handy.

If you're not into it, you're not into it, that's fair enough, it's never really shoved anything down anyones throats - If someone is annoying me on it, I just unfollow them. My own account is protected, so only people I know/like know what I'm saying :)

I only used it to complain when boards.ie was down e.g. Cult ya slacker!!

Otherwise have no interest in it as what i'd post would be of no interest to anyone. Bebo, facebook, etc have no appeal to me even though most of my friends use them.

I do like blogs but ones that focus on a industry like Kotaku.

    Twitter, nil points.

It is a bastardised copy of status updates.
