Religion should be brought to the forefront and questioned, criticized and ridiculed. These people are doing the right thing.

Even if I did agree with that, I'd still point out that there's a religion and spirituality forum, an atheism and agnosticism forum, a ranting and raving forum....why the eff do we need a thread with the same people making the points every day, nobody having their mind changed and posts getting edited and deleted every five minutes, on a board which is supposed to be fun?

Listen, there are people out there posting threads about farting, shitting, and all other sorts of crap. Go give out to them! This here is some intelligent shit yo!

You're like the guard who arrests the innocent student for smoking a single joint and allows knackers to kick the shyte out of random people in broad daylight!

Yeah I don't understand the opening post. People who say earthquakes are caused by people being bad - that's surely something the "god squads" on those other forums would believe, no?

No, the world naturally operates in certain ways. We know there are fault lines, plate tectonics makes that reasonably clear. If you live on a fault line, you should expect an earthquake. I have no reason to believe that all natural disasters are God exercising His wrath upon the earth. I believe that there have been certain incidents yes, but all is a bit of a stretch.

Believers most likely died in the Italian earthquake. Was God punishing them too? I don't think that makes sense personally. Maybe I'll discuss it with the user in question sometime to see if she can explain it to me.

If ridicule is the worst I'm going to have to bear, I'm a lot luckier than 200,000,000 of my brethren who will be threatened with jail or death.

Yes that's true. I don't have any decent reason to think that all natural disasters constitute divine punishment. If so I'll have a lot of questions for God.

There is a fair share of 'Atheist nuts' on boards.ie too let me assure you.

One only has to visit the 'Could you date a Religious person thread?' in the A&A forum to see some of the most backward, bigoted, irrational and discriminatory posts on boards.

Unfortunately for me, it was one of the first threads i viewed in there which soured my perception of Atheism/Atheists slightly.

holy shiat a big +1 to that.

they seem to think that they have one over all the other religions because theirs is the 'un-religion' or not a really a religion and therefore its alright for them to be an annoying, uncivilised twit.

    What 200,000,000 who?

Good point, I always thought atheism was a non thing, why go on about it. It means nothing really and being one should mean you dont need to be anything and have nothing to say about anything and talking about nothing doesnt make it anything ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Like the non-drinkers :pac:

It is disturbing to see people excuse genocide, rape, slavery, what-have-you in the name of their particular god(s) on boards. Is interesting reading though.

I don't give a flying fúck what people belive as long as they respect my right not to hear about it and it shouldn't be used an excuse to deny people thier basic human rights.

Yeah but so many of them were persecuted and burned by their own for being heretics.

Might be accurate in terms of the West, I don't claim to be persecuted personally, it's a bit ridiculous given the most I will get is the odd person laughing at me, not a big deal :). However in countries of 10% Christian or less, it's not quite as convincing.

About a few hundred years ago by corrupt rulers who were hungry for power and control against protestantism, yes that is very relevant..
You have to remember Catholics are NOT the only denomination in the world.

Obviously christians are not being opressed over in the EU, USA or australia etc or other very liberal(In comparison to the middle east for example) but those 200,000,000 that Jakkass mentioned are found in the likes of the Middle East and Certain Asian countries.

Damn Jakkass got there before me, exactly what i wanted to say

Meh. I don't really care what a couple of people on an internet board thinks or believes in . I don't let bother me, really. Just leave them alone, tbh.

I prefer pistachio nuts, they're really tasty but once you start them you just can't stop. They're the pringles of the nut world.

This thread hurts my head. I honestly don't see the difference between religous nuts and atheists anymore. I mean seriously, it's pointless to argue over Religon because no matter what there is always going to be a differnet opinion. Atheists feel the need to bash religon anytime that word is mentioned, and Religous nuts are always going to be at the frontline defending religon till they die. It's a pointless argument and a stupid one at that. Why does everyone always have to shove their views onto others because they think they know better. Nw as said i'm a moderately religous person as in, I believe in God, and that something happens when we die. However I'm not going to run out and start aruging with someone because they have an opinion. My friends are atheist, and depite all this we're respectful to one another. We don't bring up our views because it makes life easier for us. I respect people opinions however I think it's just plain disrepectful to be putting a person down because of their beliefs. Atheists and Religous nuts can argue all they want but it just makes them look like jerks basically. Rant Over:cool:

Strangely enough, many of these arguments are sparked by an athiest attempting to insult christians(Or any other religion) or intend that the christians are lacking logic etc.

You see very few diehard religious "nuts" starting arguments outside the religion forums and very very rarely in comparison to athiests do you see someone religious belittling athiests or calling them ignorant or starting an argument. Athiests on the other hand seem to think its acceptable for them to go around insulting a large group of people and expect them not to defend their religion and if they do they are a hypocritical religious nut.
That isnt to say however all religious people don't start arguments or start threads specifically to get some kind of reaction from athiests.

AH went from being Recession central to being about Religion over the last week
