Not as homoerotic and cut out a lot of the boring bits. Not a fan of LOTR films or books

Thats what she just said....duhh. reread.

I've worked in libraries a lot, it's great cause you know about all of the new stuff coming out and generally get to steal it first.

Found the book to long winded and took to so long to finish it. But I did read it when I was 16-17 and had a social life, More time now that I'm nearly 30 and boring so might try it again and see if its easier to read.
Still plan to watch the 3 films back to back in one sitting..

I love to read. Started reading books properly from a young age - think I read practically every Goosebumps book written, before moving on to the Discworld series (think I've pretty much read all those books too).

I used to love Goosebumps books when I was a kid, then moved onto Point Horror books, they were great!May try them out again!

Love my books. I generally have 4 or 5 books ongoing at a time. One for bed, one for the journey to work, one for sitting around at home, one for the toilet, one in the car for when I get stuck waiting for the kids or whatever. It can get a bit messy if they are all books written by the same author or all on the same theme. :)

I was going to get one of the Sony readers but I think I'll wait till they develop one that can show images too or scan schoolbooks. Won't THAT makes the kids school bags a bit lighter!

Google are now going to supply ebooks for Sony are have scanned up 50,000 free (public domain) titles.

I love to read but the last year has been slow going for me for various reasons, the worst being turning on the laptop before bed and doing nothing for a while on the net instead of picking up a book. The last book I read was The Stranger by Albert Camus.
Anyway I'm getting back in the habit and picked up a book last night that I asked for at Christmas - The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It's supposed to be brilliant and quite scary.

I work with books. It's an expensive job. The list of books I want to read grows daily.

I’ve also read all of the Dan Brown books. I know there is a divided opinion on Dan Brown and I agree that his books become formulaic after reading more than one, but Angels & Demons is still a great book, regardless of what the naysayers say. I’m eagerly awaiting his next book and the movie adaptation of Angels & Demons.

I tend to read on lunch in work, so it takes me a while to get through a book.

How many hours per day does that occupy on average?

Dunno, just a couple a day on average. I'm sure it adds up frighteningly. :)
If I had to travel for 24 hours etc, I wouldn't even look up fom a book.

Used to love reading, think I have read all the dr who books, lord of the rings, etc etc... Now I rather watch a DVD or something. I read the news papers from time to time but not that often. I want to get back into reading but find it difficult. Love the national geographic magazines and sometimes the entrepreneur. Pity I can't spell it right though :)

So I read about a third of The Three Musketeers last night and I'm not loving it.. It's an abridged version, maybe 500 pages so maybe that's it. When I read The Count of Monte Cristo, I think it was over 1200 pages of smaller text.

Like he gets word back from ur one in london but there's no detail whatsoever. Maybe it's like that in the original but I doubt it having read Monte Cristo.

I'll finish it tonight anyway since my housemate didn't pay ntl.

I used to read so much when I was younger nearly every week in the library, then I went to uni where reading books seemed to be a chore.
Now I am trying to get back in on it and have set a goal to read at least two every month.
Reading Flat Earth News now and it's not particularly well written but once I start reading a book I feel compelled to finish it.

Never trust someone who doesn't read.

Actually - don't trust people who do either.

    Just don't trust anyone, alright?

I'm the same. At the end of the summer I read about 4 books over a month or two, but haven't read anything consistently since then. I'm about two chapters into Dune right now and am reading it in short bursts, on and off.

As a side note, does anyone else not get the hype about Terry Pratchett at all? He seems to be a God amongst almost all hardcore book readers I know, but when I read Soul Music it just didn't do much for me. Not bad, but I wasn't compelled to go and read the entire rest of the Discworld series...

I am forever reading,my favourite author is Michael Connolly. Crime fiction is my chosen genre, that said i will read most anything.

Question for the OP i have recently purchased a few classics,The Count of Monte Cristo being amongst them would you rate it that highly?

Aye, some of the "swash buckling" was considered a bit risque, though if I recall, there was nothing explicit. They could have been just visiting late for a chat and tea after all.

I read two or three of the early ones years ago, but I wouldn't go mad for them. He's very broadly popular, but comedy novels are not everyones cup of cha. I remember reading Tom Sharpe and recommending him, but getting what might be called 'mixed feedback'.

i really would.. the storyline is a step above anything else I've read and I guess it plays on our "what if i won the lotto" sort of mindset.

don't rate the movie too highly and plot is very different to the book.. make sure you have the full un-abridged version, the book I had was massive but it's all in the detail with a revenge plot.

    Oh i love to read!

I've just finished Berlin by Antony Beevor. Very grim, but a fantastic read.

I always bring a book with me to read on the train in the mornings & evenings, it makes the journey fly.

What do people make of these i-reader yokes? Would any of ye ever get one?

    I dont think they'll ever catch on:cool:
