I think getting a wedding for 100-120 people for under €10k in Ireland is good going, even in this climate.

Last wedding I was at was about 250 people, there was a free bar before the meal, during the meal and for a while after the meal think that came to 4k alone so a wedding for under 10k wont be easy.

I know, not a lot of weddings do I was just giving an example of how one part of a wedding can cost quite a bit. But thinking about it you should be able to do it alright if you plan carefully especially with the economy not going great people wont be as inclined to attempt to rip you off as they will need the business.

I was a terrible wedding once. The father of the bride had said he was going to pay for the wedding but actually paid the hotel with a forged cheque and so halfway through the meal they came out and confronted him and the whole thing ended up in a ridiculous shouting match. The Gardai arrived after the father of the bride assaulted the hotel manager, the groom and even his own wife.

    It was a disaster.

With a start like that is it any wonder we got divorced a few months later.

that sounds like a brilliant wedding :D

I have no idea what show you're referring to, but probably yes.
Lots of places 'borrow' content from boards.ie without paying, or even acknowledging it.

My idea of a wedding is getting married in my parents garden, having the reception there as well with a local band playing all our favourite tunes...
I would never fork out ridiculous amount of money for one day, it just doesn't make sense!

    sounds like a lovely day...FOCKER!

People moan because for the most part they have only been invited because they will bring a cheque. I got married abroad. I didnt send out invites, just a general 'if you want to come please do' kind of thing. I didnt feel comfortable putting people under pressure to spend so much money on my celebration. However those that did were clearly told not to buy a present as their presence was more than appreciated. (and yes we picked up the tab for the food and drink).
well of course you could afford to do that after having such a succesful singing and song writing career, but what about the poor folk like the rest of us!

Or don't get married at all.
Seriously, what's the point in this day and age?
    If you're a guy - tax breaks.

If you're a woman - you can take the poor bastard to the cleaners after you cheat on him.

Fair play to them. Looks like the people only went for the free feed then. Why bother spending that much on people who are only going for their 'day out.'

    Think the name suits you

I'm doing the same...in 2weeks and have to say kinda worried about it cause although people say they don't mind I cann't help but think they DO  (and some comments from a certain individual about not being able to have a dance, don’t help...although I must add that they haven't danced at any other wedding I've been to with them there!!!)

:D but I'm sure it'll will be just fabulous...and we'll be Mr. & Mrs. which is the main thing :P

Just a little update...it was the BEST WAY EVER to have a wedding!!!!

Everyone was relaxed, wonderful resturant menu enjoyed and YES the certain individual DID have a dance...the hotel very kindly arranged a singer for the bar of the hotel that night!!!

And received lots of totally unexpected cards and gifts from friends, neighbours etc...telling us we were just right to have a "family do"!!! (So worrying about not asking folk was a waste of engergy)

So all in all...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED :D
