Are you sure??? I didn't think they would in case someone crashed a car or something in the dark and ended up suing the ESB...

All roads don't have street lights - once you leave a town/city, you are driving in the dark.

I was going to go up to the Dublin Mountains and see the city in darkness if they are turning off all the street lights...

I'll take a few pics of the city from the Hell Fire Club, if the weather is clear, you will get an excellent view from up there. I'll post the pics up here later...

I think all street lights should be turned off after 1:30am. I remember a time in Perth when this is exactly what happened. The sky was lit up with stars after the street lights went out. I remember getting up at about 4am to go outside my house in 1973 to see comet Kohoutek. It was a stunning sight, even from within a city. Try that from any city these days!

I reckon ever present street lights don't deter crime, I think they actually facilitate it.

Anthropogenic global warming is a crock of... so I for one, will not be regressing to the pre-industrialised past this evening.

Is it the local authority then that flips the switch? Are they turning off the lights tonight?:confused::confused:

No, they would have to turn out your lights too!(including sockets everything)

In the city the council own/manage the lights. They would have to go to each individual area and manually switch off each few lights at a time. Esb couldn't just switch them off without a special agreement because they have an unmetered supply, they wouldn't know where they stand. Still confused? :D

street lights will be turned off, not feasible to do so

This thing is just so poorly thought out...let's turn out the lights at 8.30pm tonight and spend loads of money promoting it on TV and Radio

eh...hope no one takes it too seriously -imagine someone decided to turn out the lights in Croke Park at 8.30pm tonight?

Instead of a power down it will be one of the most lit up Saturday's of the year.

They say every light off is a vote. They are hoping to get a billion "votes" to get more countries to sign up to that Copenhagen agreement thingy that will replace the Kyoto Protocol

And all the screams of "aaannnto" and "here you, have ye got a smoke bud?" from up there on a weekend night should be fun:P

And back on topic: I think they are turning off the lights at the Customs House and something else, its up to the population as to whether they join in or not...
