Cate Blanchett has been linked to the role of Maid Marian opposite Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's new film 'Nottingham'.
Speaking to the Telegraph, actor Mark Strong, who has been linked to the role of Sir Guy of Gisbourne, said: "I think Cate Blanchett is set to take the Maid Marian part.
"She is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it."
'Nottingham' is due out in 2010.

excellent choice if she comes on board

I prefer the wholesome curvature of Lucy Griffiths.

That said Blanchett is a much better actress than Miller.

Bereaved Vanessa Redgrave is concentrating on work following the tragic loss of her daughter Natasha Richardson - she has signed to star in Ridley Scott's 'Robin Hood' movie.

The acting great is set to play Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, mother of the folklore hero's nemesis King John, played by Oscar Isaacs.

Redgrave will join Russell Crowe as Robin Hood and Cate Blanchett, who was drafted as Maid Marion after Sienna Miller dropped out.

It is the British actress' first major movie role since 2007's 'Atonement'.

The casting announcement comes just a week after the death of Redgrave's thespian daughter.

Natasha Richardson passed away on Wednesday after suffering a traumatic brain injury on the slopes Mont Tremblant in Montreal, Canada two days previously.

Redgrave and her daughter Joely Richardson, along with Natasha Richardson's widower Liam Neeson, laid the star's body to rest at St Peter's Episcopal Church in Millbrook, New York on Sunday.

another good casting choice with Blanchett

Teaser trailer out a few hours ago. Okay so the trailer isn't much to go by, and the music is a bit odd, but it's great to see Crowe bringing the pain again!

Maximus does Nottingham as it were!

Ah wow - is there a link to the trailer?

    It looks pretty badass,

I think there is a real gladiator feel too it. Can't be any worse then Prince of theives though.

Its kinda funny cos, if you didn't know it was a Robin Hood trailer at first, from the first frame you'd be thinking "wow .... its Gladiator 2: Die Harder ..... awesome! "

Looking forward to it anyway. Lots of good actors in this one.

Maximus, sure, but let's not forget Crowe's other great military leadership role: Jack Aubrey.

Rumours have it that there've been a lot of problems with production, various reshoots, etc. Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe though - I have to hold out hope.

Looks good... But Ridley Scott & Russell Crowe? Again? *facepalm*

I had thought of that also but Gladiator was the lesser of two weevils...ahem

did that trailer remind anyone else of 300? just a bit...

I'm not fully convinced yet, it really looks like Gladiator meets 300 meets Pathfinder IMO but time will tell, all of those films were epic so here's hoping!

Hopefully the film will be good and Ridley Scott will go off and start working on a sci-fi movie. He has been away from the genre for far too long.

I'm probably thinking about another film, but was this originally meant to be about the Sheriff of Nottingham and how he was actually the good guy in the story? I had thought it was this, but any information I find on it just seems to make it out as being a standard Robin Hood flick.

It is the same film as far as I'm know but it may have undergone some major rewrites since then. Film production was delayed several times so the story may have changed.

? Pathfinder is one of the most woefully awful, ocassionally funny films ever made.
Do you remember the avalanche scene near the end? *Shaky camer* "Wo no, Avalanche" *Cut to old national geographic footage of Avalanche*.

Terrible movie and not to be casually thrown in with Gladiator and 300!

In fairness, replacing Kevin Kostner in every scene with a cardboard cut-out of Nic Cage wouldn't make Prince of Thieves worse.

I know it's just a teaser, but there was no standout moment there for me, it just seemed really sullen and downcast. It will probably be good and does evoke some Gladiator-lite loveliness but not really the kind of clip you'd be dying to show to friends

I personally loved it! I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it, but it is just my opinion. I can't see Russell Crowe pulling an award-winning English accent in this, and am I the only one who keeps thinking of Tugger whenever I see him??

irish actor gerard mcsorley is going to be in it. I was talking to him about it at the AC/DC concert would u believe. He said it was the hardest acting job he's ever done.

Because Crowe kept beating him up?

Hmm, I'm going to give the film the benefit of the doubt for the moment, but the trailer for that is laughably bad. Rock music?

TBF say what you want about Crowe but I think he is always worth the admission to (or download of) a film.

I will hold onto hope as I think both RC and RS know their way around the genre enough to not produce a turkey. I'm sure that is why that is was reshot. Great idea in theory though to have robin the baddie.

I don't know. Russel Crowe just isn't Hood to me. Hope they follow the book though, I seem to remember it being pretty grim rather than full of cheeky chappies.

Apparently this cost more than $200m - I smell a massive flop. It looks exactly like Maximus goes to England and no dialogue in the teaser or international teaser is never a good sign either. Weak teaser as well and a summer release date won't help, it's release is sandwiched between Iron Man 2 and Shrek Forever After - it's screwed
