Yea, I hate it when people jump on the bandwagon with these things. The same happens with GAA when a county starts to do well, suddenly everyone wants tickets for games and if you asked them to name three lads on the pitch they wouldnt have a clue!

This happened last year with Waterford hurling. People who didn't attend a game all year suddenly turning into super supporters when they reached the All Ireland final. It really annoys me.

Thankgod somebody else feels the same way. Never been a fan of rugby although i will watch it on telly at international level, in fact i'd rather watch a bad game of rugby league..looks a lot faster with alot more action.
Anyway, all my friends were celebrating saturday nite, talking rubbish about previous teams era's, i was asking them since when did you follow rugby. " oh ive always liked rugby" eh no you havent, ive known you since you were 2 mate.

Alot like the bandwagon jumping of man utd and chelski

I dont get this inverted snobbery about rugby either. Limerick is arguably the Rugby capital of Ireland (If not it is a close second), you couldnt walk down a single street of Limerick without knowing the Ireland game was on and the atmosphere all over the city after the game was brilliant. Now who here is going to tell me that Limerick is a posh city?

I don't know why anybody would think it's a "posh" sport when they see a 25 stone beer-swilling scrum-half "animal" with his teeth kicked out, two black eyes and a broken nose. It must be GAA propaganda.

I'd never seen a Munster flag until a couple of years ago, and now they're hanging all over the place.

I think its a well regarded game in Munster regardless of were you come from, but in Dublin it has different conatations,to do with class mainly

I fall asleep watching football. I ****ing hate the game.

Rugby is great. I will admit i only got into it in 2007, mainly cos of the World cup. But what suprised me was that even after we were slaughtered and knocked out, i still watched all the other matches. I enjoy watching a good game of rugby at any level. Great sport. Too small to play it though :(

Dublin is full of clubs that aren't the least bit posh. It's not all cravats and caviar, but some people will always cling on their preconceived notions.

I care enough to watch it, not enough to worry who wins or loses. I wasn't exactly biting my nails or anything when Wales took that last minute penalty.

Saturdays win was fantastic, it's a bit sad that there's probably more Irish that are more interested in some dump of a city from northern Englands result against some other dump.

As opposed to the Irish team that gets a lot of players from dumps in Munster?

Absolutely love it, amazing to see how many jumped on our bandwagon since Saturday:pac:

Bottom line is Rugby is the only sport that this Country is doing anything good in, Soccer is a joke etc.

From what im reading the past few years have been regarded as having the poorest set of teams in a 5 and 6 nation tournament. It also says the french and english are on rebuilding programs for the next world cup??A friend of mine from oz who does follow the game made a comment on saturday i thought was quite funny " keep watching, a game of rugby might breakout soon"

Indeed. Super 14 rugby is at least watchable unlike that Heineken Cup farce.

Why ? are they not entitled to support any team or should they just support one irish team from one dump of an irish city against another team from another dump of an irish city ? .

You dont have to be a rugby or sports fan to see that saturdays result brought the country together and made Irish people everywere feel proud .

Where are the rugby clubs in Town,Cabra,Finglas,Blanchardstown,Coolock,Ballymun,Darndale,Glasnevin,East Wall etc, there probably are clubs there, but Ive never heard of any, pardon my ignorance if there is,but I'd say the majority of the Northside is lacking a rugby club, which reinstates the idea its only a game played by snotty kids from private and bording schools

I see your location is Blanch. You've never heard of Coolmine Rugby Club?

If they're not as good and winning things on a regular basis then of course you're not going to hear about them.

Coolmine RFC is right around the corner from me. Although it is closer to being in Castleknock than Coolmine.

I don't mind people jumping on a sports bandwagon that much.

What I don't like is being lectured by people for not going with the patriotic flow (or ''begrudging") at times like this. When it's from people who don't even usually follow the sport, it's extra irritating.

Unidare were founded in Finglas, and have a Ballymun born player on a rugby scholarship in New Zealand. Aer Lingus play (strangely enough) out by the airport. I am not sure if they are also known as Swords RFC as well. Tallaght have a team. As two people have pointed out, Coolmine have a club. Clontarf RFC is quite near East Wall. My club Seapoint is in Ballybrack, and is far from a posh outfit.

I'm not saying that there are rugby clubs in each and every suburb of Dublin, but the clubs that do exist are not all posh fùckers.

Great result from a great team. I'm delighted for the likes of John Hayes and all the other senior lads to finally get winners medals for the massive amount they've given the sport over the years.

If I wanted to watch basketball, I would get an NBA subscription.

Super 14 rugby is not everyone's cup of tea, and notably has rarely, if ever, had the drama of the Heineken Cup.

how would you regard the standard of teams in the six nations this year? And will they make any impact in the next world cup

I'd say it wasn't a great Six Nations standard at all, that much is clear enough. Ireland won the grand slam. But we actually played badly for much of this tournament, scraping through.

Of course the Six Nations teams will make an impact in the next world cup.

England look resurgent, Wales still have oodles of potential, France remain chronically schizophrenic (regime change needed).

Ireland will be looking to kick on from here and 'normalise' championship wins, in the same way that we've normalised the Triple Crown; no big deal.

Scotland will be disappointed after a relatively promising autumn season, and Italy still desperately need a playmaker at 10 to be competitive.

Lions Tour this summer will be very interesting. Just like in 1997, the tourists are being written off already. Lovely.
