Reading SMART from external drive?

    Anyone know how to read the SMART status from an external drive connected via USB? Its a Samsung and I'm running Vista if that makes any difference.

    It depends on whether the usb chipset supports it.

    Most new ones do.


    Just use the same application as you normally would to access it.

    Thanks but so far the only apps I can find are a samsung dos based tool, ActiveSMART and DiskCheckup, none of which will see the drive.

    Thanks Capt'n Midnight thats seeing it too. Its annoying though, both apps say the drives working fine but I can clearly see its not saving files properly :confused:
