Faulty Yaris key.. Warranty?

    Hey all,

    My warranty isnt up on my 06 Yaris until August. I've noticed that lately the remote central locking is only working when Im very close to the car, and at times its not working at all and I have to click the lock button 4 or 5 times for it to lock/open the car.

    I suspect the battery in the key is going. Is this a warranty job to have it replaced or is it going to be expensive to sort?

    Buy a new battery? probably only costs like e5quid.

    remote battery won't be covered, but as already said, it's only a few quid.

    If it's the battery then it's not a warranty issue. As suggested, replace the battery. If the problem continues then book it in with your local Toyota dealer.

    Seems like a handier job than I thought then? I thought the keys weren't to be messed with.

    Just make sure you have the spare key handy. Alot of keys will loose their programming if the battery is removed long enough meaning they will need to be reprogrammed.

    Is it just a case of bringing the key to the local auto shop and picking up the battery for it?

    Also, if the code is lost when I swap the batteries, it'll need to go to the Toyota dealer then yeah?

    when i changed mine I just swopped the battery over straight away and the code was unaffected. As far as i know getting a key coded is a main dealer job can be a bit expensive. Id be shocked though if the code was wiped in the time it takes to swop a battery. Id say if you went to a motor factors they'd change it and all for ya but its a simple job yourself. If you want to be sure take out the battery write down the code then put it back in till you get your new one.
