HOW DO I BLOCK WHOLE COUNTRIES FROM WEBSITE

Could somebody please tell me (in simple English) how to block a whole country from my website? It's not really my website but I am running it for my daughter in her absence, and I am demented with spammers. I have tried blocking country IP addresses but somehow, I also managed to block my own and other Irish IP addresses in the process. Below is what I have copied and pasted from the IP Deny Manager on the website but it is all double dutch to me.

    Add an IP to deny:
    IP Address or Domain:

Note: You can specify denied IP adresses in the following formats:

    10.5.3.333 Single IP Address
    10.5.3.3-10.5.3.40 Range
    10.5.3.5-40 Implied Range
    10.5.3.3/32 CIDR Format
    10. Implies 10.*.*.*

    Thanks in advance.

10.x.x.x are restricted local only addresses, you're not going to block any internet users that way, just your local traffic.

I didn't use that as I haven't a clue what it means. That is just the example which is given on the website. At the moment, I only know how to block single IP addresses and that's not much good unless the spammers have a fixed IP address.

    What web server is it?

    http://www.blockacountry.com/

That generates a list of country IPs. It mentions .htaccess but you can use the IP Deny Manager instead to use the list it generates.

[edit] http://www.countryipblocks.net/index.php would be better - it generates the list in CIDR format instead of a .htaccess_deny list

I found the country IP block. Now I would like to know which of the sets of numbers below, I should put into my IP Deny Manager.

IP Address: 78.3.67.11 is located within the following Network:
    Network: 78.0.0.0
    CIDR: 78.0.0.0/14
    Mask: 78.0.0.0/255.252.0.0
    Network Range: 78.0.0.0 - 78.3.255.255
    Total addresses: 262,144

Sorry to keep asking the questions but I am a total novice at all this jargon.

And in response to the person who asked, the web host is www.letshost.ie

The above numbers are for demonstration purposes only and I am sorry if they correspond with any member's IP address.

Brilliant. I understand now how to block the countries. Thanks a million.

    http://www.schooner.com/~loverso/no-ads/

edit the noads.pac to exclude by the tld
    eg blocking .ru .la

in the meantime if using firefox get noscript and adblock

I was actually trying to stop people from registering on the website as it is mainly for recycling unwanted goods and it would be of no interest to people outside Ireland. I am able to stop them from posting on the forums but I can't prevent them from contacting admin, with the result I am getting quite a lot of disgusting spam.

I will go along with the response I got from Macros42 as I understand how to use this.

Just in case anybody is interested, the name of the site is: itsinmyway.com

I don't know if I am allowed to post the name here, but apologies if I am not and I am sure the mods will remove it.

Thanks again to everybody who offered help and any further suggestions will be truly welcomed. As I stated earlier, I am a novice at all this and my computer skills are very limited.
