    Jackson to announce London dates

Michael Jackson is expected to announce a series of summer comeback concerts at the O2 arena in London.
The pop legend is due to appear at the venue on Thursday make to a "special announcement", a statement said.
It follows months of speculation about a string of money-spinning shows. Jackson last performed in 2006, at the World Music Awards in London.
But he disappointed fans at that event by singing just a few lines of We Are The World. He last toured 12 years ago.
The O2, in Greenwich, south-east London, is the venue where Prince played for 21 nights in 2007, and where Britney Spears is performing for eight nights in June.
Jackson would be likely to follow a similar pattern of a run of gigs at one venue, rather than an extensive tour.
At Thursday's press conference, he will hope to convince fans he is fit enough to perform a number of full shows.
    Neverland auction
His last substantial series of concerts came in 1996 and '97, when he played 82 shows in 58 cities as part of the HIStory tour. His last album of original material came out in 2001.
Stories about personal, health and financial problems have circulated in recent years, and he was cleared of child abuse after a four-month trial in 2005.
The singer is selling many of the contents of his former Neverland ranch at auction in Los Angeles next month.
But with classic releases like Thriller - the world's best-selling album - plus Bad and Off the Wall, he is the most successful entertainer of all time, according to Guinness World Records, and retains a huge global fan base.

I think with respect to concerts, the only thing that can bring cheer me up after having prince bail out on us last summer is this.

If dates for a Michael Jackson concert in London are announced I think I may just have to purchase one and head over. I don't think I could miss it.

    Anyone else excited about this?

Not really. Ive seen him 3 times and he was fantastic the first 2 times. On his HIStory tour he mimed a lot during the show. Also he's not a young man anymore and regards public opinion, the jury is definitley still out.Id expect him to be a shadow of his former self and the demand to see him may not be what he hopes.

I'm a huge fan, but I suspect a lot of concert goers will be expecting car crash TV because it's a case of when not if he does something mental. :(

I saw him in 1992 on the Dangerous tour and it still is one of the most impressive gigs I've been to. I'd hate to see him again and shatter that memory (because short of turning into a dragon on stage, he can't top it).

Looks like it may be confirmed, although it may be some marketing ploy to exploit those crazy fans who follow him around every where he goes. About time too, they're probably the biggest bunch of gobshites.

God I remember seeing him over 20 years ago in Cork at the 'Bad' tour. Was my first ever concert and few have stood up to it since then... as much as I can't stand the controversy that follows him, I have to say the man is a genius, what a showman.... would definitely love to go see him this time around but I'd be afraid that it would just be a big let down.

That seems to be a lot of people's opinions surrounding this entire concert - I think for newer fans it will be something special as long as he turns up and everything goes well.

Remember, an artist of his calibre is most exposed onstage, so for him...it will be a huge personal and mental struggle to once again delve into that world.

He probably won't be able to gyrate around the stage as much as he used to in case his nose (maybe whole face) would fly off!! :D

Now that I would pay to see.

So, who's going for the show? :p

Looks like sky news are reporting 300,000 sign ups for the pre-sale. Considering that the capacity is 20,000 and there are only 10 shows, unless there will be additional shows, it has already been sold out.

I'm seriously hoping they put on more shows to meet the demand. If I don't get a ticket I'm going to be pissed.

Many registered few times using different emails. As I have read there was 16.000 hits per second just after the announcement. Unbreakable.

Just got the email with a presale code...wonder how many people got them? I reckon everyone who signed up....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 814 ✭✭✭nialldinho

i signed up by email and didn't get any code. neither did my friends.

does anyone have any spare that they don't need?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,136 ✭✭✭WooPeeA

I did registered once as they said on the website that those who registered 2 or more times will not be chosen. I wanted to be honest.

I didn't get any code, one of my friends have 3 of them as registered using 3 different emails. 2 of them with false name so she can't probably even use them. Lucky were those who registered many times. Being honest is being loser.

    Real fight begins on Friday!!

I had 4 fantastic floor seats!! But my credit card was rejected. There was only enough for 3 tickets on it. And as you can guess, by the time I jumped back into the pool, the water had all been drank...
