Up untill recently they could say (correctly) that the ad revenue was enough to justify the costs associated with the LLS and TN, not now though.

After comparing how Johnothan Ross and Ryan Tubridy handled the interview with William Shatner really showed me how poor of a host Tubridy really is, As a lot of us know Shatner is an incredibly eccentric guest and his interview on friday night with johnothan ross was one of the funniest interviews I've ever come across, then watching him the next night while Tubridy baffled through the interview and didn't know how to handle Shatner.

Wish it was Tubridy that was off the air for a few months instead...
I watched Shattner on Ross's show (I'm a Treker and loved Boston Legal) and it was VERY, very entertaining.
So when I heard he was on RTE I thought great, I'll tune in.
My gawd, it was like watching paint dry. Boring, drawn out, boring again, lifeless and dying a death every five seconds. Terrible, terrible show hosting by Tubridy - a classic example of just how talentless he really is - he just didn't know how to handle his guest or any other guest.

The difference in the two nights was as clear as black and white.
There's no way anyone could convince me Tubridy is worth the money he is getting.

So its come to the point that these two believe that they are bigger than the company they work for. Understanding in the case of Ryan (literally! :D) but every employee should remember, you are always expendable!

So offer them a substantially reduced salary. Plenty of private sector employee are facing cuts due to the present 'circumstances'. They dont like it well fellas ya know where the door is.

There are 4 million people in the country. Surely be to God we are able to find a handful with the personality to entertain on early morning radio. We are a country of story tellers, poets, singers. Now I don't advocate all three on either show by my prospective new host but the ability to entretained is enshrined in us...!!! Nuff said.:)

That's where RTÉ made the mistake in the first place - if you're going to pay someone a huge amount based purely on ad revenue, why not link the amount they earn to the amount brought in?

It's the exact same situation as the NTR & the M50 - the government claim that they didn't realise how many cars would pass through & so how much the contract was actually worth - surely it should have been 'til you make X amount or X number of years, whichever comes first'?

With Tubridy et al - RTÉ should have them doing the most menial job that their contract allows - out collecting the coffee or something. Like football managers when a player refuses to be transferred- have them 'on the bench' - no air time at all. & tell them that their contracts won't be renewed by RTÉ when lapsed & let them see how popular they'd be with BBC etc, in 5 years time without any publicity behind them.

Gerry Ryan is a bloated,self-obsessed windbag.
The corpulent slob should never have been allowed to become so well paid.
Fat loud-mouths are two a penny in ireland, they couldve had ten similar shows with different presenters but they leave it all to him..typical RTE ballwashing.
As if the sound of his droning voice isnt enough they've been trying to turn him into a television star for decades to the revulsion of the viewers.
A ten percent pay cut is the very least this slobbering tub of spew should be forced to take, ideally they should sack the turd and prove him wrong about his being essential to the network.

my point exactly. get rid of him. you are never essential and can always be replaced. get somebody new, someone with a personality. Someone that doesnt want to constantly talk about food (G. Ryan), talk about sex (G. Ryan) talk about sex (G. Ryan - the amount warrants two mentions) or talk about the fact he jacked off last night (G. Ryan - so i read in the paper and happy to retract if wrong! :))

Too my shame I watch the Late late two weeks ago where the choose the new song for the Irish Eurovision entry. When it came to toting up the votes they went live to the Cork studio where this bubbly, attractive, funny (She had the audience in stitches within seconds) gave the southern results. If this is the talent pool available to rte utilize it rather than listen to the dictations of some pompus, arrogant self promoting individual that obviously has more money than damn sense at this stage !!:)

I agree but also thought shatner looked shattered , like he was on the beer the night before or something.

I agree... A purge of RTÉ presenters is absolutely necessary. Ryan, Tubridy, Duffy -- off with their heads please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭johnmacward

Don't purge them just because they're not taking a pay cut.

They should be purged because they're crap. Hence they should have been purged a long time ago. Neither Tubridy or Ryan have been anything other than crap for their radio lifetime.

Yep he states that he thinks he should be paid at least as much as Pat Kenny.

I think we should all email this wanker to let him know what we think.

    grs@rte.ie

Im also seriously thinking of ringing into the show tomorrow, under the pretense of talking about the cost of tea-bags or something, and actually putting some of the points raised here live on air.

Rte are probably going to have to let ppl go to cover their 69m deficit. This prick could actually cost 2 ppl their jobs cause he wont take a 50k reduction. How he can have the balls to try and empathize with the callers into his show talking about hard-times etc is beyond me.

Ever see an old photo of James Joyce? - one of our few genuises - head down, unable to look at the camera, lacks confidence.
Ever see a photo of Gerry Ryan? - eyes squinted, lips pursed, head up - with a look of his own self importance. TOSSER.

Gerry Ryan looks like he ate Joyce, and used Tubridy for a toothpick.

Great idea - if enough people try it, it's bound to work. Even if you get cut off, it'll make a point.

I actually watched 11 episodes of Boston Legal before I realised it wasn't a new Star Trek.

Raiser, thread of the day and post of the day. Well done.

Gerry is useless! he gave a speach last week about feeling sorry for people losing their jobs and they cant do the things they enjoy- like a drink in the local on a saturday night- an hour later he was saying "there is only one way to travel to NewYork- first class and then a limo picks you up and drops you to Fitzpatricks- then up to the suite" i mean is he fuping that stupid? Good man Gerry! he's a bastard in my eyes! i remember someone said they seen him in grafton st. and he looked at them and gave them a look of "get out of my way- i'm Gerry fuking Ryan"
