    Hahaah.

This thread really delivers; Tubridy to take a 10% pay cut.

just show the elephant in the room the door and see how much he is offered in the real world by the commercial stations in the current climate

QFT. RTE management have the whip hand and always have had but they are weak and also very well paid for what they are running, so haven't had the pressure put upon them to simply say - "its this or its nothing". If the "talent" is unhappy they can always try thier luck with 4fm or similair.

Do you think he'll still refuse a 10% pay cut now? As said with the money these guys are on it's not as if it's going to leave them strapped for cash.

I think Gerry has backed himself into a corner and his aroggance wont let him back down. But even he must see the damage he is doing to himself. Ryan's stance has pissed so many people off that his listenership figures are bound to take a big hit. And when he comes round to negotiating his next contract he is f**ked.

Brilliant bit in the Irish Times (soz if a repost)
A senior RTÉ management source said the station was legally bound to honour Gerry Ryan’s four-year contract, but that he was morally bound to take a pay cut and “you can take it for granted” that he will put under pressure to do so in the coming weeks.

“Virtually everybody in here recognises it would be untenable to ask a researcher on €50,000 a year to take a pay cut and not ask somebody on €500,000 to take one too,” the source said. Ryan currently earns €558,000.

He added that Ryan’s stance was damaging his own reputation and that of RTÉ. “We are getting a lot of phone calls and e-mails from people who are fed up with the Gerry Ryans of this world. This is doing him no good.

“If you look at wiser people like Miriam O’Callaghan , they immediately saw they had to be where their colleagues are at.

“We build up people like Gerry Ryan to have enormous egos. They become their public personas. We built him up to be bombastic, loud-mouthed and opinionated because that’s what sells him to our listeners. What he is doing now is just acting the maggot,” he said.

    Miriam O'Callaghan wise?

Canny maybe, possibly sly, certainly a cute hoor.

    But not wise.

I recall Gerry Ryan once saying he'd happily pay more tax for a better health service.
He makes it up as he goes along. No doubt he'll announce shortly he's taking a pay cut.

This parasite has to have his salary cut ASAP. If he was working in uk on a regional station with a market the size of Ireland he would be on no more than 150k. Top presenters on bbc2 get 600-800k sterling and thats for an huge audiences 20-30 times greater than 2fm gets.

Ryan Tubridy and Gerry Ryan still won't accept a pay cut on their massively overinflated, astronomical wage packets - link

In my opinion Gerry Ryan is smug, irritating, arrogant and his voice has a higher cringe factor than fingernails on a blackboard..... Anyone could sit in that chair ordering buns from PAs and noisily slurping their tea on fcuking microphone over the airwaves. His constant insincere, hypocritical recession mantras are also very insulting to anyone who is having real difficulties at this time.

As for Tubridy - Who the hell is making that wannabe 'intellectual' use all of those big words that he almost can - but cannot quite handle? More often than not his questioning/comments really do seem to take a route that he just 'knows' provides an opportunity to mix in a word that he has recently discovered and almost understands - just because he wants to be seen to be using it.....

Why not promote some new, fresh homegrown talent and let these two idiots slurp tea and randomly quote the dictionary at home in their own kitchens where we don't have to be listening to them......

Jesus H Christ!! Who kicked you out of the wrong side of the bed?

A simple bit of advice for you: IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM, DON'T BLOODY LISTEN TO/WATCH THEM!!?? It's that simple.

    Only somewhat...

You also have to take into account that the over paid twats are taking up actual radio air time that in the same time period, could be used at a cheaper rate of pay, to showcase some of our younger, even better talent that might be out there.

While these tired fattened up loud mouths rabble rouse and mumble on, they are draining out new further home grown talent and keeping them off the air more so!

I wouldn't be a big fan but at least they can speak correctly and use words of more than two syllables, unlike a lot of the spotty immature "edgy" **** who inhabit some of the other stations. They have about as much clue about what is going on as a goat on a mountain

Like a group of adolescent schoolboys, trying to outdo each other with inane banal pronouncements and "repartee."

Ryan and Tubridy are paid far too much ,but give me them, ahead of the pimply faced gimps who think they know it all, and prove by their grammar and diction that they know far from that.

    No thank you!!

I wholly agree with this thread, yet, for me, the troubles with RTE go deeper than the flaccid ryan and inane Tubridick. The heart of this issue for me is a question, what, on RTE, do you listen to or watch ? For me its:

    Television:
    1. RTE News
    2. Errr....
    3. Errr.......

    Radio:
    1. Errr............
I suppose there is the odd bit of podge and rodge maybe (or is that TV3)... and Mrs FBP does indulge in Desperate Arsewipes on occasion but really...
I suppose you could argue that this nation has little purchase in terms of cash afforded to the BBC, but in context, WE ARE PAYING FOR THIS ****E, its OUR boradcasting service ! Techically, they work for our entertainment, so, lemme get it straight, our 'top' entertainers are:

    1. Gerry Ryan
    2. Ryan Tubridy
    3. Joe Duffy
    4. Pat Kenny
    5. Dustin the Turkey
    6. sheila sossige

maaan thats some lineup, Did I leave anyone out ?

Personally I find it deeply offensive that I must pay a licence fee to watch my telly when I honestly could'nt give a sh1t if RTE in all its monotone 'safe' banality went down the toilet.

Why can't we have a fairer system and buy RTE viewing in a bundle on sky or something ? Simple answer really, NOBODY would buy it !

As for radio, don't get me started.... What passes for entertainment and humour on the radio in this country, in my opinion boders on infantile at best, most of the dross emanating from RTE... Thank the lord for internet radio, just wish I could listen to it in my car...

If it wasn't for small fact that I have to pay a yearly licence fee to subsidise their obscence salaries , or face prison, I would agree with you.

I couldn't give a flying feck about either of them. They add about as much to Irish culture as the puke left behind by Hen parties on the cobbles of Templebar.

Yep, I agree. I love it to be as simple as turning them off - in an ideal world.
but as long as money is being used to prop them up on air, it's never that simple.

    If only...

I don't really care about Tubridy, his show is mildly entertaining at times if there is nothing else on.

Ryan is a piece of crap though and should go. Does anyone actually listen to him anymore? I accidently tuned in on the train a few times and got bored after a few minutes. I can't stand the guy and I actually thought at one point that he had gone away because I had successfully avoided his programming for a while but alas no he is still there it seems.

I don't see what RTE would lose by getting rid of him altogether. Just make him redundant and replace his show with something useful or entertaining.

    /sorry had to be done.

    A fair way of doing...
Most of the regular presenters have had other people do their shows from time to time. RTÉ can tell from the ratings how many people changed over because the presenter was replaced. A little bit of statistics to take out seasonal or weekly variation should show just how important the presenter is compared to the show format.

Very disappointed by the thread title, tbh.

I thought the recommended axing of Tubridy and Ryan was in the psychopathic lumberjack sense of the word.

I'd keep them, they sum up everything about this country at the moment.

I hate the two of them, but the incessant bleating of 'someone else earns x, that's not economically viable anymore. I want them to have a paycut, so that I don't have to have one' is really getting worse.

Everyone wants someone else to lose out, but how many of you have offered to take a 10% paycut? They're on contracts, they don't have to take less money, and if you offered anyone the chance to take a 10% pay-cut or not, most people wouldn't.
A girl down the road was told that she would lose her job if some of the staff didn't take a 10% pay cut. They didn't take the pay cut.

I know that one of them is a boardsie and is most likely baying for the blood of others after putting a young girl out of a job.

how come he is still willing, despite this, to still give 10 % to a charity?, why is he oppose to the paycut. does he know more about where tax payers money goes than the people?

If Tubridy worked for free I'd still want his show axed.
RTE exists for one of two reasons:

    A) To provide balanced entertainment for the Irish population, in proportion to demand.

    B) To give air time to programmes that would not be viable on channels that are profit based.

There are eleventy billion inane chatshows on the digital channels, why in the name of count fu<kula are RTE supporting Tubridy and Kenny at the same time? How do they manage to peddle this rubbish for €160 a year?

After comparing how Johnothan Ross and Ryan Tubridy handled the interview with William Shatner really showed me how poor of a host Tubridy really is, As a lot of us know Shatner is an incredibly eccentric guest and his interview on friday night with johnothan ross was one of the funniest interviews I've ever come across, then watching him the next night while Tubridy baffled through the interview and didn't know how to handle Shatner.

Wish it was Tubridy that was off the air for a few months instead...
